How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because I chose to work in this industry because it all began in High school. In the drafting class, I decided to draw the next year’s building trades house. I enjoyed dealing with the building department, and getting the plans ready for building. I then enrolled into the next year’s Building Trades class, and was able to build the house that I designed. I found that I had a love for building, and so I decided to start building houses. I worked for a remodeling contractor for the next 4 years. Then I got my Contractor's License and started my own construction company in California, as a design-and-build custom home builder. I went on to build hotels and condos. When I moved to Washington state, I noticed a wide-spread need for exterior repairs, and decided to specialize in exterior work: Roofs, siding, windows, gutters, skylights, and handyman. I love being able to help fix peoples’ problems. My background is from the ground up. Most likely, I can find a solution to your home’s exterior needs..

I thought they cleaned up the roof but they just cleaned up the gutters. They did an okay job of cleaning the gutters. For the price I was not unhappy. It just didn't quite what I thought it was, it was totally different than what I anticipated. I was surprised it took them as long as they should have considering the rotten weather that we've had. Everybody probably called up the first couple of three weeks but I was surprised that it took that long. They said they get back to me in a couple of days but they didn't and they just said sorry. The responsiveness to the call was quick but the responsiveness to the work done was quite slow. They came when they said they'd come and they were probably 10 to 15 minutes early. They were nice.

I think they did a really good job. There were no additional fees. The job took 3-4 days. They were very good and professional. I thought they would have started the job earlier in the day, but they usually started around 10 and worked til at least 5-6.

they provided a time-limited service. they spent about an hour and said they could not spend more time. did a standard cleaning (no detail work) then caulked worn areas. when they ran out of time, they said "is there anything else we can do" but said they had no more time to do it. caulking was adequate but rather cursory. for the price they did sa much as they could. wish we could have added $25-50 for more thorough job; more time would have cost too much.

We're committed to maintaining a network of trusted home service businesses, and those who don't meet our criteria will be rejected or promptly removed from our network.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
