Overall, the work went very well. I'll say first off that I'd use them again-- in fact, I plan to. They were professional, service-oriented and did a good job. There were two nits: I had a small amount of cleanup to do after they were done. The first inspection failed, because the ground wasn't close enough to where the water pipe used for the ground entered the house. It was clear, however, that in order to make the ground connection that close we would have had to tear up a significant amount of ceiling and wall in my basement (which is why the electrician made the attachment where he did). I had to call Beacon a couple of times to find out what was going on, and the last I heard they were asking for an exception due to the amount of work required to make the ground connection where code ordinarily required. I assume the request was successful, but I never heard officially.

It was a flawless operation. Â The estimator arrived first and presented a complete presentation on generators and answered a lot of questions. He was very experienced, knowledgable, and professional. Soon after that, the generator was installed, and the guys did a great job, working all day. Â Â Â Next, they returned and spent some time teaching me the basics of operation, maintenance, answering all my questions. Â I couldn't have been more pleased with their installation.

Everything went as expected. The panel installation took about 8 hours, but we left the house the day to avoid lack of power. There were no issues with the installation. We consideredusing Beacon for other electrical issues.

I would actually give the whole process an overall rating of B/B+, but that's not an option. Â It was an extremely lengthy process from beginning to end and there were a number of things that could have help it go smoother that unfortunately did not happen. Â From the beginning: Â The actual estimate went very smoothly although I was distressed to learn that because of the location of my deck, a whole new gas (and very lengthy) line would need to be added (generators have to be close, but not too close to the house apparently and there was no location close to the gas line). Â The gas line installer/provider was late, but very apologetic and even took off some from my estimate because of it (this was very nice!). Â While the installation took a bit of time, it was the actual Fairfax County inspection process that was the most unnerving. Â I waited THREE times for inspectors to come only to find out that each and every time I was missing some permit that was supposed to be in my window. Â Every time Beacon Electric was apologetic, but with my work schedule, even getting off for these whole day windows (you are supposed to be home all day when one is scheduled) is really difficult. Â The last one was when I was about to blow my patience (and I have a lot of patience) -- especially when the missing piece was not my fault (once again a missing permit) and one of the employees from Beacon told me in an email that I would be charged for these multiple visits from Fairfax County. Â I have to give credit to Bob because he emailed right away and said that that would NOT happen and not to worry. Â The other piece that made the whole process not very smooth was that the generator had to be tested and even though I kept emailing and left my cell phone number, calls were made to my home line which I missed (which was the reason I kept leaving my cell phone number). Â However, FINALLY the generator was tested -- and simply because someone from Beacon showed up on my doorstep on the day that Hurricane Sandy was due to blow through. Â You can imagine how thrilled I was! Â Sadly there was a HUGE problem with the functioning of the generator, but the Beacon guy AND the gas guy showed up to fix it -- and worked through the rain and as the wind picked up. Â So despite the headaches, Beacon came through and I learned that there are sadly LOTS of permits involved in something like this and Fairfax County is very picky about having all of them.

Initially took advantage of the Angie's list offer for the attack fan. Beacon called me a few days later and we set an appointment for the end of the following month. They apologized and explained that they were extremely busy with many Angie's List customers taking advantage of the offer. When Technician arrived he gave me the option of an upgrade to the attic Fan I had purchased through Angie's list. He showed me the fan in comarison to the one I had paid for and explained clearly the lifetime warrant y and it being a more powerful fan. I agreed to purchase the fan. Installation took about one hour. Also provided a free test of our townhomes circuit box. Overall very satisfied with my experience with Beacon Electric. The attic fan I agreed to has made a huge difference to our 3rd floor bedrooms during the summer. Much cooler and tolerable to sleep in. Would recommend company and their professional staff.

The same person, Steven, came out for the installation. Again, we were very pleased with their service. The lady who handles the phones in the office, Dee, was extremely responsive. If you called with a question, she immediately found the answer and called you back. She was very conscientious about setting up a convenient time. I was very impressed with her customer service. The owner of the company takes customer service and any customer feedback very seriously.
