The job went great. They finished when they said they would and it only took them 2 days to finish a 3000 sq ft home. Their estimate was 3K less than closest next bid. Brent is really nice guy and easy to work with, highly recommend.

Response from Company:

Thank you for the excellent review Mr. [Member Name Removed]! It is truly appreciated!

This was a great experience. I really wanted B. Griffith to do my roof based on their reviews on Angie's List, so I waited until they were more available after Hurricane Irma. I am very glad that I did. Brent is a great contractor, and he really took the time to educate, show me samples and offer various alternatives. His office staff were great too; very personable and helpful. I did not see any workers standing around; they all got right to work and finished my roof in record time and cleaned up thoroughly afterward. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who needed roof work done. Extremely nice people to work with.

I'm not the type that goes for the B's or C's. I don't judge any company by the price; I look for the quality so an A rating from me is all quality

Pure perfection probably the only honest roofer in the business

I have never encountered more dishonest and disrespectful business in my years as a homeowner. Be warned - the owner does not have control over his own company. His office is run by his daughter and partner, who the owner admits have been the source of many customer issues. I had obtained a quote from several roofers to get both of my roofs (tile and flat) replaced. B Griffith Roofing quoted $13,500 for tile replacement and $6,200 for a tapered roof system. Additionally, they quoted my solar installer $2000 to install supports for a solar system. The flat roof quote was high in comparison to other quotes, but due to time constraints, I had to move forward. The owner, Brent Griffith, told me on multiple occasions that he would inform me of and request permission for additional charges before work was performed. Work started on 5/23 in which they removed tile, put down new underlayment for both roofs, and replaced the flat roof with the tapered roof system. No one mentioned any additional work. In the process of re-roofing on 5/23, one of their workers put a hole in my guest room ceiling (I could see through to the sky -see pics). Brent assured me that he would cover the repair cost, so I had a drywall contractor repair it at a cost of $390. Additionally, his workers damaged the gutters on the front of my house when removing tile. There were multiple witnesses to the above, including my solar installer who stopped by to see that the supports would be installed properly, and a water mitigation company who cut out the ceiling under the flat roof after it was replaced. As you can see in the attached pictures, the decking and rafter wood under the flat roof is all original. Weeks went by after the initial work with no mention of any additional woodwork. During this time, I discussed payment methods with the owner and he said I could pay with a credit card and OFFERED to split the credit card processing fee. His office manager, his partner (not wife, but they live together), called me and left me a nasty voicemail accusing me of demanding to split the fee and calling my character into question after they "had gone out of their way for me already". This was the first red flag, but I told her I'd cut them a check if it was going to be an issue. Even that conversation in which I was telling them I would pay them was rude and confrontational. Tile arrived weeks later and tile work was completed on 6/27. On 6/28, I wrote them a check for the original contract price in full of $19,700, which was picked up by one of their workers and delivered to their office. They cashed it and THEN sent me an email telling me there would be an additional invoice for woodwork. This was a surprise since the owner had told me his crew said nothing to him about woodwork. I replied to them telling them what the owner had said, and that I would not be paying for anything I wasn't made aware of and that I didn't approve. If the owner says his crew didn't do woodwork (apart from the places where they put their foot through), and that he would notify me of it beforehand, and literally a month goes by after claimed woodwork was done with no mention of it, and only after I've paid does it come to light - THEN I have a reason to be skeptical. At this point, they started responding with more nasty emails. Before even sending a quote for claimed woodwork, the office sent me an email threatening to place a lien on my home and hold warranties & insurance documentation hostage. I called the owner immediately, and he again reiterated that his crew had not mentioned woodwork to him, that it was a non-issue, and that he would accept the $19,700 as paid in full. He also committed again to repairing the hole in the ceiling and to repairing the gutters. The office responded back countering what the owner said, with quote, "My dad said to let you know that I am handling this in the office and that you do not need to call him as he is out of it." I thought - Is this a good cop/bad cop scam? At this point, I got my attorney involved. B Griffith's office sent me an invoice for $825 for 120' of woodwork on the tile roof and 30' of woodwork on the flat roof. I got up into my attic and did not see 120' of new wood under the tile. The attached pictures under the flat roof show original wood since the ceiling was cut out. This was clearly gouging and dishonesty. Additionally, they sent my solar installer a surprise invoice for an ADDITIONAL $3800 for installing the supports. That's $5800 for a $2000 original invoice. This surprise amount was included in the Notice to Owner they sent which would be the basis for their threatened lien. They claimed their workers were there for an additional 24 hours to do that work, but their workers were not at my home for more than 4 days total to do the entire roof replacements an support installation. The solar installer paid the $5800 invoice to try to stop them from placing a lien. The unprofessional emails continued in which they backed out of providing promised insurance documents, accused me of not being able to understand English, refused to pay my drywall contractor (claiming his invoice was not good enough, leaving me with a half repaired ceiling as he did not return to finish when he realized he was not getting paid), and refused to fix my gutters, accused me of trying to scam their company, and sending statements like "please stop wasting our time with your useless opinions as they do not matter (I too have my personal opinions about you but I will not lower myself to your level - lol)". With guidance from my lawyer, I requested the documents they were obligated to provide in exchange for the woodwork payment. They refused to send the documents to my lawyer even when he had my certified check in hand to pay them. They doubled down on accusing me of trying to scam them when my lawyer and I were actively trying to pay them. Eventually, my lawyer had to send them a certified check before getting a release of lien - a risky proposition given their deceptive behavior. I had to order an independent 4 point inspection because they would not provide the roofing certificate they promised. My ceiling and gutters are still damaged. I have filed a complaint with the contracting board to have B Griffith's license revoked. Do not hire this company. They will gouge you, weasel out of damaging your property, and attack your character while doing it.

Griffith Roofing repaired the leak promptly and we have had no more more trouble. The owner is wonderful to work with, he knows his business and he stands behind his work. We would use him again if we have any roofing needs. His team is professional, courteous and very competent. We trust him and his team to give us quality service and they do not disappoint.
