Write a ReviewOur old gas boiler/furnace quit working at the end of January. Roth was very responsive to our dilemma and sent Dale Johnson, Service Technician, to inspect and assess the situation. Dale determined that various parts would need to be replaced, but because of the age of our boiler, parts were no longer available. We made the decision to replace it. Lisa obtained the necessary permits, and Dale continually updated us on status, removed the old boiler and installed the new one in record time (just before the deep freeze hit Oregon). They also arranged for the county and state inspections. Dale was very professional, responsive and conscientious throughout this project, I would highly recommend Roth Heating & Cooling.
The plumber arrived on time. Assessed the problems , made a bid and then went ahead and fixed the problems that same day. He made the bid , went out to buy the parts and returned to complete the installation . However I ended up paying over $425/ hour!!!! I thought it would be more difficult to fix the [problem but it only took the actual work about 5 hours total. I want to stress that my job was completed adequately. However, now I feel " taken" for the job provided.
Initial visit for water heater repair was great, fast response and service from Ryan. About a month later Josh did a maintenance review of our furnace and air conditioner. We decided that rather than try to repair our very old equipment we would opt for new. Derrick presented different options, we felt comfortable with his presentation, not pressured at all and confident about this recommendations. Yesterday, Ted and Daniel installed the new AC unit and furnace and we are appreciating the efficiency of our new air conditioner. I have been impressed with the customer service, responsiveness and professionalism of this company. Highly recommend.
They were very good. They were professional, courteous, and did excellent work.
My air conditioning unit was having trouble keeping up in the heat so I called Roth. They quoted me $89 for a diagnostic trip. After the technician had looked at the unit he told me that he brushed off the coils because they appeared dirty. I assumed it was simply part of the diagnostic, and was never quoted a price. He also used my hose for 5 minutes to rinse off the coils. He wasn't sure if that would fix the problem. When it came time to pay he told me it was $420! He used no parts. $330 to clean coils. I could have easily cleaned my own coils in 20 minutes!! I called the company expecting them to be sympathetic to being charged $330 for less than one hour of simple labor and was told it is a set fee. Absolutely ridiculous!
I can't remember the last time I felt so ripped off and charged for absolutely nothing. I wanted Nest security cameras put up around my house. They told me that there would be an $89 diagnostic fee. When the tech came out, there was NO diagnostic work done. He showed me laminated sheets of the products (which I didn't need because it's all the same information I read about on Nest's website already). When I called to make the appointment, I told them exactly which products I wanted. The reason I needed an electrician out was to make sure that it was compatible with what I was looking for. (i.e. Is the doorbell cam compatible with my current system.) All that happened was I pointed to where I wanted to cameras and he showed me the laminated sheets. He didn't even look at the current doorbell to see if it was compatible. He said that I could do that. Additionally, he repeated several times that his 14 year old son installed all the Nest cameras around his house. If that's the case, why was I given a completely unreasonable quote of: $813 per outdoor camera, $527 per indoor camera, and $607 for the doorbell?!? He tried to justify it by saying that the cameras products were included in the price. But you can buy the Nest cameras for $300 for outdoor camera, $250 for indoor camera and $230 for the Nest hello doorbell. The labor cost here is ridiculous. By the way, this cost does not even include any wiring work. I was quoted an additional $218 per wiring per camera location. The quote without the wiring was for basically drilling holes and putting up the mounts. I should also add that I asked what the install fee would be when I made the appointment and they said that they couldn't tell me on the phone and that the tech would have to tell me. Geez, I wonder why? I guess it's an easy $89 for them. I asked if he could just give me a quote for the labor part so that I can get the products from Nest directly. He said no because if he was going to try to "go to bat" for me and get me a "better deal" because of the number of cameras I was getting, I needed to get the cameras from them too. Guess what, he nor anyone else from Roth contacted me with this "better deal". I should also add when it became obvious to me that the tech was going to do NOTHING for the $89 fee, I thought I would ask him about an outdoor patio light that hasn't worked in a while. He did not look at it or touch it, but said to me to try to change the light bulb. Seriously?!? How much more insulting can you get?
We have used Roth in the past for furnace and A/C work and decided to try them for plumbing. We were second call for the day and John arrived around 11, after calling to let me know he was on his way. He didn't have the bolts in his truck for the type of toilets we had, but he went to the store and got them. He promptly got the bolts installed when he came back. He spilled some water from his shop vac on the entry floor (not really his fault as we have boxes around the edge of the stairs to keep a blind dog from falling down the stairs, making it hard to navigate) and charged us $24 less for the inconvenience, which was a nice touch. I like it when companies allow their workers to decide on pricing based on the situation.
Unprofessional and unethical. Hired to do routine service on equipment they installed and left with broken down unit. Replaced a part that was working normally on premise it looked bad. Wired the new part wrong and burned up blower. No unit for over one week waiting for part. Upon return unit worked for one day before breaking down. Was told it would be days for service again then when we complained we had already waited over a week they told us we should look elsewhere for service, refusing to repair their damage. Service tech also noted several other parts that I should consider replacing, all of which are working normally.
We completely understand your frustration and I apologize that you had a poor experience. The purpose of our preventative maintenance technicians are to recommend repairs or changes that may have potential issues posing a problem in the future. There are no obligations to these changes or repairs, these are recommendations that keep you in the know of your system and its function. I understand with this particular repair there were some issues - however in normal circumstances Roth is more than willing to return to the home and make the appropriate repairs. It is our goal to provide our customers with the ultimate satisfaction, high quality service, and highly trained technicians. For these reasons, we decided the right thing to do was reimburse you the dollar amount we had discussed for the original repair, the check was issued to you on 7/11/18 .
Great job!! Technician was well educated!
After installation, this company tried to gouge me for more money over an expensive part they "overlooked" as being needed. They offered what they claimed was a discount on the part, even though five minutes online brought it up at half that price. Later I notified them of a problem with the return box and asked why they didn't do that part correctly in the first place. One guy said "We'll make it right." Then I got passed to the estimator who gave me a quote of $850 that had nothing to do with the return box. My GC's quote was $350, so I called Roth back and explained it. The estimator then decided to decline a quote at all. So was all that inability to understand their own work incompetence or willful deceit? I don't know, but I'd never hire them again.
