Write a ReviewGreat! Completed job looks wonderful.
This job (which I contracted and got on the waiting list in August) took a total of eight days of work around the Thanksgiving holiday.  The demolition of a built in 9 foot bookshelf/cabinet area in the bedroom began on a Thursday with Shane, A J and Tony getting the bedroom demo finished in one day. Next they began framing and dry walling a new closet. The outer wall of the closet was fitted with shelves and an angled desk filling in the 0? span of wall.  This area had some change orders as the work progressed and Shane willingly made all the changes I requested and was ready to change anything I didn?t like.  As the work quickly moved forward Shane told me what to expect the next day and every day that followed. On the fourth day more work was done in the bedroom and Shane, A J and Tony began the demo of the bathroom. The electrician, MX Electric, and the plumber, Express Plumbing, also began their work that day??this was a day with no electricity, no water, a lot of workmen and a lot noise.  At the end of the day the water was again running and the electricity was on and the old bathroom vanity top and cast iron bathtub were gone, the bedroom mud and paint was drying and the debris in both rooms was once more completely cleaned up. On the following four working days both of the two rooms were completed. The work was expertly done, the guys (Shane AJ and Tony) came in every morning with a cheerful attitude and worked carefully, hastily and expertly to complete the work on schedule. If you care about the place you live in, if you care about the work crew you have in your home and if you care about the quality of the work you want done, then you absolutely want Custom Home Updates to do your work.    Â
It took a while to get him out here, because apparently he's in high demand. We were content to wait a while. We weren't disappointed. Custom Home Updates obviously takes great pride in their craftsmanship. Shane was worried about the fence not being straight on account of our trees and neighbor's fence, but you'd never know to look at it. He made suggestions that allowed us to save money (e.g. giving us ideas on how to get rid of our old fence on our own). And while he was at it, he fixed a few extra things for very small charge that we'd wanted fixed, but we'd not had the equipment ready to fix. We didn't expect that! The fence was an awkward one to replace because our lot isn't flat, but he built us a new one from scratch to conform to our non-flat yard. He was very responsive and helpful when I had questions for him over the phone.
Shane was responsive and professional throughout the whole process. He was prompt and cleaned up the site when the job was completed. His bid was $800.00 but he let us know that it could end up being more depending on the amount of wood that would ultimately need to be replaced. Shane straightened the garage, braced the structure with new materials, and replaced our side door with one that we had purchased. He re-framed most of the opening for the new side door to accommodate the dimensions of the modern door. We are very happy with the results and the cost. Our main door now operates perfectly. We plan to use Shane's services again in the future and have recommended him to friends.
While on the roof cleaning the gutters, Shane noticed a damage shingle and patched it with silicone caulk. As per my request, he removed some old gutter screens and installed downspout strainers. He also took the extra time to hook up the garden hose to rinse out the gutters and downspouts. All in all a very professional job. I would highly recommend Custome Home Updates.
We had good communication before the project began and throughout. He made excellent color and product suggestions, as well as recommending the best suppliers to use. I am very pleased with the result.
It went great. Â They guys installed a new shower door upstairs, which we've had no problems with at all. They also fixed a shower door that had been improperly installed by the previous homeowner. I'm very satisfied, and would use this company again.
They came when they said they would be there. Â They did the repairs there that day.
They were courteous, polite, and very accomodating. Changes were met with enthusiasm.  He made sure that I knew what was going on every step of the way....to make sure that what "his vision" was what I wanted. GREAT communication and vision! I told Shane about other projects for the house that I had swirling around in my crazy head: and he said he could do all of them...and told me about and showed me pictures of his other completed projects. WOW! He is truly great at what he does. If you want your project done RIGHT the first time, call Shane. If you need a little help with your "vision" of the project, call Shane. Or if you know exactly what you want, call Shane.... I guess what I am trying to say is that Shane will go above and beyond to do what you want or need to have done. Many, many THANKS to Shane, Jason, and AJ: you guys are AWESOME! I LOVE MY NEW DECK!!!!
From the initial contact until the job was completed, I thought Shane communicated everything perfectly. He is busy and this does not surprise me...but he was honest about scheduling my small job and was spot on in showing up to get the work done. Our first target day was rained out but he rescheduled me quickly. The men who came to do the work were professional, clean and very polite. When I explained to them that the floors were going to be replaced soon after the door was installed, they still insisted on carefully covering the floor and work area. How thoughtful is that? He measured and remeasured and it shows. My door is beautiful inside and out. The exterior trim on the house was a very good choice and the trim on the inside is warm and inviting next to my new wood floors. I can barely believe it is the same room.I highly recommend this company for any work you need done. Professional, careful and great communicators.
