In June, I called (chatted with) Precision Door Service and said I wanted to have my two garage doors tuned. There was nothing wrong with them at the time, as far as I knew, but one of them seemed to be a little loud which, like a squeaking wheel, led me to believe that preventive maintenance would be appropriate. I was quoted a price of $99 plus $69 per door. The serviceman who came on July 1st, however, had obviously not come to do preventive maintenance: He came to sell me things, starting with complete new doors and motors. He gave me some nice glossy brochures. He claimed that because my existing doors and openers were so old, he could not work on them. If that is true, I should have been told that before his visit was scheduled. He was determined to replace something, so we eventually agreed on the cables, which were showing minor signs of fraying. It was a ten-minute job he told me, because of his seven years of experience, and he soon left with my $296.70 check in his hand. The first time I activated one of the door openers, the next day, the front gear (plastic chainring) broke into two pieces, which fell to the ground and made the opener inoperable. Although I cannot identify any specific relationship between the replacement of the cables (or any other modifications the service person might have made) and the failure of the gear, the conclusion is inescapable that the door was working when he arrived, and not working when he left. After three telephone calls (two of them chats), the same serviceman came back on July 11th. Again, he had not come to fix anything, but to sell me things. His preferred solution, faced with a broken plastic gear, was to install a new motor, at a cost of $645. So, after my tune-up from Precision Door Service, I am left with a door that is inoperable.

Paul did an excellent job in replacing our garage door opener. He was professional, explained the process and was very courteous. If our second opener were to go, I would definitely use Precision again!
