"You cannot go wrong hiring K Mullaj Electric! It was a pleasure to work with Klodian from beginning to end of the job. He responded promptly, made an appointment to provide an estimate and the written quote was sent that evening. He was hired to install wafer lights throughout the home, to install a larger breaker box that would accommodate a tankless hot water heater, and to relocate several switches and outlets. Work began almost immediately and Klodian worked long days to finish the job quickly. He was open to changes when presented with new ideas and he went above and beyond to help us sort things with regard to a few challenges we are facing with our remod. We highly recommend K Mullaj Electric as Klodian did an excellent job at a fair price. He is pleasant, prompt and trustworthy and we hope to rehire him in 2025 when we begin phase 2 of our project."

"I had a few outlet issues and miscellaneous electrical questions. Marc Thrush was very professional, courteous, knowledgeable and extremely patient. He actually listened to my concerns and addressed each one of them. He wasn't in a mad rush to move on to the next customer, which unfortunately seems to be the way many companies now think is an appropriate and acceptable method of treating their customers. I appreciated that he cared about making sure everything was taken care of. This is rare. Marc definitely exceeded my expectations. Mr. Sparky is fortunate to have such an exceptional employee."

"AYSE, LLC is by far the best electrical contracting business in the US. I have properties in both Florida and New Jersey. After the emergency repair where my electrical panel had to be replaced, I was so satisfied with the work that I had them also handle the rewiring of my home in New Jersey after an addition was added. Price wise, no one in NJ could compete and that included the transportation costs. I highly recommend AYSE, LLC as their work is second to none and their prices are fair. The work was completed 5 years ago and I have yet to have a single problem. AYSE, LLC is #1."

"I needed diagnostics and repairs of a doorbell that ceased to function after pressure washing of the home; we replaced the bell, but it was still not functional. Brett quickly found and repaired the issue. He also found a problem with the 20 year old surge protector, which was double tapped to the main breaker. He installed a new surge protector and removed it from the main breaker. I did not even know this was a problem, as the home inspector had not discussed it with us when we purchased a year ago. I greatly appreciate that Brett was not only polite and punctual, but that he could make needed recommendations about an unrelated issue that will likely save me a lot of money in the future!"

"John Sherlock and his wife Corrine called within 1/2 hour of looking for Lightning Rod installers. He was available and was over to talk with us within one hour. He sent all his credentials and licenses and insurance coverages of his business and they came over the next morning and completed the installation extremely fast. He gave a fantastic offer, and lifetime warranty coverage and will even come over and take down system when we replace the roof and place back up at no charge! His wife even saw some plants we had not put in the garden still sitting in containers, and offered and planted them in the spaces we wanted, just to help out. Very friendly, helpful, professional, extremely knowledgeable and even suggested adding Lakeland Electrics Surge Protector protection they provide to go along with the Lightning rods. Yes would have them again on any home anytime."

He came the next day and took care of the electrical problem we were having. We then had him install two light fixtures and rewire a ceiling light, where a fan had been, to a wall switch. In addition, he put in two code sockets in the kitchen. We were very pleased with his services, professional advice, and cleanliness."

"Red Cap Plumbing (Jon B) is absolutely outstanding and extremely knowledgeable. He came in was explanatory and insightful. Not only did he fix the valve issue I threw another job at him to install my new kitchen faucet and he did not hesitate. You know by going into ANY plumbing service it is going to be costly, so prepare accordingly. What you will get for your dollar is expert service, craftsmanship and commitment to the job completion and to your level of expectation. Due to plumbing being a costly venture I highly recommend you sign up for the annual management plan $199.99 and well worth it. You get additional service, priority booking, discounts on service. As a former service member I got a 5% discount which was very generous and appreciated on the total bill. As part of the plumbing annual membership you get a flush of your water heater to remove any sediment and prolong the life of your water heater which can be very costly, take care of it now. Couple this service with your American Home Shield Home Warranty and you will never have to pay full out of pocket for major appliances. The next part of what makes Red Cap superior, they have an AC team as well, basically a 1-Stop-Shop! As part of your annual agreement you get to AC visits to do checks on your system twice. The AC rep Shaun quite possibly is one of the smartest and intellectual contractor's I have EVER come across. He explained the AC Handler, the outside unit and how to increase air flow throughout your house and help yourself breathing wise. At the end of the day here are the high level points 1. Plumbing is costly, so get someone that is there 100% - Red Cap 2. One Stop shop with Plumbing and AC, trust in your home 3. Knowledge and ability to communicate the work is critical 4. Get the home maintenance plan for 199.99! Worth it hand down!"

"Its really nice to meet a company that uphold honesty and integrity as their values. This company did an install on my property following a major remodel in 2011 and did a great job at a competitive price. Fast forward to 2019 and I have recently had some of my roof replaced and the roofers removed all the of lightning rods! I called John and he came straight out exactly when he had promised. We own a large property and it would have been easy for him to charge me for a full replacement system but instead John explained that it was a pretty easy fix and the charged me very little to take care of my problem. John also walked the other buildings and checked all OK while he was there. Folks , This guy is old school honest and in today's world that's a rare commodity. Overall a great business I would highly recommend. Thank you John"

"After contacting the 3 companies provided by Home Advisor I chose to go with James Townsley and I'm very glad I did. He is very professional and did a great job. There were a few things that needed to be added to the installation, even so my cost remained the same as quoted. He was quick to respond to my emails and phone calls and did the installation on a day that should have been a day off for him to accommodate my strange work schedule. He is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions during the installation. I would and already have recommend him for lightning rod installations."

"New 16kw backup generator installed 04/23/2020. Stellar customer service!!! Today two technicians arrived at our home not long after I called relative to a possible LP gas leak. Once again they were knowledgeable, courteous and professional. They took time carefully reviewing our newly installed 16kw backup generator and all connections leading thereto. They competed the repair, checked for leaks, ran the unit and cleaned up afterwards. When customers receive service like this, coupled with courteous professional and knowledgeable people, this company is 2nd to none. I can honestly say this company has been a pleasure to do business with and I will certainly recommend to anyone looking for such service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. David & Angela Ortiz Lehigh Acres, FL."

    Wiring, Panels, New Construction Installs

"Outstanding all around. I had a small fire in my electrical panel and Exodus rewired my home. The work entailed 1. Removing and installing a new main breaker panel with all new circuit breakers, 2. Installing new wiring, plugs, switches, and electrical plates 3. Bringing wiring to code for my range, 4. Installing new wiring for my new stackable washer/dryer which I just added to my house and added a new outlet for a new flat screen tv 5. Swapped out old light fixtures for new fixtures, 6. Added smoke detectors and combo carbon monoxide/smoke detectors where needed. The men were professional, pleasant, showed up when they said they would, respected my property, and cleaned up thoroughly. The electrical inspection went perfectly. The pricing was very reasonable and I was billed what was agreed upon before the work began. Exodus went beyond the call and was reasonably and fairly priced. I would highly recommend their work."

Frequently asked questions

  • An electrician’s cost per hour comes in between $50 and $100. It’ll vary depending on your location and the type or professional you hire. Areas with a higher cost of living can expect to pay on the higher end of that scale. Licensing level may also increase the price.
  • Usually you’ll pay a higher rate for the first hour. This covers their travel and time expense. Emergency or after-hours rates are usually higher too – expect to pay an emergency fee of up to $300 plus a higher hourly rate.

Electricians do a fair amount of larger remodeling and new construction projects but also common residential projects including:

For cost information related to the above tasks, visit our Electrical Cost Guide.

  1. Do you have a license to perform electrical work in this state?
All states require an electrical license or work performed under a Master Electrician. You should also ask how many on the job hours of experience they have.
  2. Do you have insurance?
Never use one who isn’t insured. You can ask to see proof of insurance.
  3. Do you have prior work references?
You might skip this for small jobs like installing a light or outlet. For larger projects, always get references.
  4. What are your rates?
Always ask up front. Getting a detailed quote up front is the best way to go.
  5. Who is going to do the actual work?
Often, a Master Electrician will come out to diagnose and bid on projects, but they have their apprentice and journeyman electricians do the work. This isn’t a terrible thing, in fact it’s common practice. The Master’s license is on the line with any work he supervises.
  6. Is your work warrantied or guaranteed?
Any reputable company or contractor warranties their work, usually for at least a year.
  7. Are you usually on time?
Overbooking is a frequent problem with electrical work. Often, a service call goes long, and they end up showing up at your home late. This common complaint is easily remedied with an up-front and honest discussion. If they can’t be on time, make sure they’ll call.

1. Don’t Be Misled by an Electrician’s Hourly Rates

A truly skilled, well-equipped professional with a truck full of parts that charges $100 an hour can be a much wiser choice than an inexperienced hack, working with inadequate tools and no parts, but charging much less. Often, more experienced professionals get the job done quickly with warrantied work.

2. Compare Travel Charges

Rates reflect travel times. Travel charges can have a big impact on your costs and are in some ways easier to compare than hourly rates. Many electricians spend a third or more of their time navigating traffic on their way to a jobsite. Every contractor must find a way to pay for the expense of driving each day.

3. Bundle Repair Jobs Together

When you feel it’s time to call a pro, review your list and then conduct a mini-inspection of your home. Look for faulty switches and dysfunctional or crowded outlets. When the electrician comes, you’ll save money and time by getting everything taken care of at once.

4. How to Prepare & What to Know Before the Electrician Arrives
  • Be as thorough and detailed in describing your needs to your contractor. The more they know, the quicker the job will go.
  • Before they arrive, prepare a precise list of items you want serviced. Electricians have budgeted their time for a service call. They don’t have time for additional requests once they are on site.
  • Make sure the electrical panel box is accessible. You’ll pay for the time it takes to access it.
  • Clear away fragile items, knickknacks and furniture from areas where you expect the them to work.
  • If you have questions about the project, ask them before they start. Most are happy to run you through the problem and the process of fixing it.
  • Ask about potential issues after the work is complete. During a service call a professional will spot any potential hazards.
  • You’ll lose power to parts of your home while they work. Be prepared to pause anything you’re doing during the service call.
  • In most cases you’ll have the option to either pay at the time of service or have a bill sent to you. You’ll be able to pay with cash, credit and sometimes check.
5. Install Money-Saving Electrical Fixtures
  • By switching from ordinary incandescent light fixtures or bulbs to fluorescent or LED ones, you can substantially reduce energy consumption in your home.
  • Motion detector switches can help you save money on outdoor lighting while at the same time providing very cost-effective security to your home.
  • Creative landscape lighting and indoor accent lighting can make your home more appealing to you, your guests and potential buyers in the future.
