Write a ReviewI hired Mina to help determine the severity of cracking in my home. He was very down to earth, approachable, and felt like he had my best interest in mind. He took the time to explain everything until I understood and put my mind at ease.
Really informative, took time to break everything down to you.
Don't let Contractors take advantage of you, and hire an independent professional engineer. We did have several cracks around the house including the foundations walls, interior walls and ceilings. We hired many contractors for estimates for the repairs, we did have huge difference in quoted starting from $7K to $35K, then we hired an independent engineer to do a full structural assessment. We hired Kiro Engineering to do the structural assessment. They have three options for the assessment. We chose the highest option with a full assessment and structural integrity for the entire house. The report was very detailed with photos, observations, and recommendations. We like the way it was organized. The report was simple to read and understand for a "layman" who is not a professional contractor. This report gave us the right cost estimate. We almost saved $25K.
He was 50 minutes late resulting in my fiance being late to work. We hired him to tell us the best way to repair a foundation crack .He recommended that we fix the crack from both the inside and outside with epoxy injection. First off, to fix from the outside would require us to remove some of the deck and also the concrete slab undneath it with an exterior french drain would cost us 20k. I asked why we couldnt go from the inside and use an interior drain as we got quoted 5k. His response was they dont work. They clog. Well yes, an outside french drain will too eventually and the next basement contractor said he can leave the cap visible so we have access. He also said they dont use epoxy anymore and use urethane as it is proven to be the superior method which I did look up online and he is correct. So this structural engineer; was 50 minutes late and couldnt give a good reason why we shouldnt go with an interior fix and it cost us 290 dollars without a report and he was useless!!! Stay away!!!!
Thank you for your review. We are sorry you did not like our service. We are not hired to support your Contractor's opinion. We are professional independent engineers. We informed youthree hours in advance that we will be late. We explained the three options for assessment that we have, including the verbal assessment without a report that you did choose. We are not Contractors and we are not trying to sell a product for you, so we told you the best engineering solution regardless of the price. We explained in detail why an interior drain you suggested under the basement slab won't work as the crack you have is a stress crack. You need to release the pressure behind the walls. We don't recommend digging under the slab next to the walls to protect the foundations from soil heaving, based on the geologic profile in your area, which can cause more damage to the walls. We did recommend another solution for an interior surface drain that you didn't like. We mentioned that you need to use epoxy to seal the crack, in addition to the carbon fiber straps. No need for polyurethane as we are using carbon fiber straps, in addition, that the polyurethane for concrete applications is much more expensive. We are not responsible that the Contractor is trying to offer something you don't really need, and it will cost more. We understand we didn't have the good news you were expecting from us. You don't like the solution we provided. Our job and our credentials to tell you the truth and the right solution, not to support your Contractor's opinion, or the solution you prefer versus your partner's opinion. Our engineering opinion is based on our credentials, past experience, and the assessment of the crack condition you have; in addition to the geologic profile and ground seepage condition in your area. We are not Contractors, and we are not trying to sell you another solution. You choose the option not to have a report. If you are qualified and accredited to make a decision, then why you hired us. We are sorry that you didn't like our service.
We had some structural problems with the foundation of my parents house in Hockessin Delaware and Mina from Kiro Engineering LLC came out to their home to assess the problems. He was not only thorough and detailed but took the time to fully explain what needed to be done. He also let us know a good estimate of what we should expect to pay which really helped. Great personality and I would highly recommend him. Trust me you won t be disappointed.
I hired Mina, Structural Engineer at Kiro Engineering to evaluate my foundation problem. He submitted a report of what had to be repaired. Mina also was very helpful in reviewing the several contractors I contacted and helped me to make the best decision on who to hire. Once the work was completed, Mina came back to review the work before my finale payment was made. I am very happy choosing Kiro Engineering and Mina!
Mina was very thorough in his investigation, knowledgeable and helpful in explaining problems. He submitted a report when he said he would. I would highly recommend using this company.
We are a group of developers. Our engineer was retired in 2018 and we were in need of a structural engineer. For over one year we worked with six different engineers. Some were good but really expensive and some were licensed with PhD and has no clue about the codes, until we found Kiro Engineering. In the first project Kiro completed a set of structural, architectural, electrical, and plumbing plans for the L & I department in Philadelphia. It was easily approved. We also used Kiro Engineering for structural assessment and make-safe permit, and EZ Alteration permits. Reliable, very knowledgeable, polite, and honest. The fees are really reasonable compared to other engineers. Kiro is now our engineer for all our projects in PA, NJ and Delaware. We are glad to have Kiro Engineering as our engineer. They are the best.
Mina arrived on time & performed a complete home inspection - literally from top to bottom. He was very thorough, totally professional, and was polite & clean. His fees were clear and very fair. I would highly recommend Mr Mikaeel and his company.
We want to remove a load bearing wall and build an addition. We hired Mr. Mikaeel who came quickly to take the measurements and evaluate the structural condition of the property. His fees were really reasonable to the volume of work he did. We requested few more edits after the first set of plans were completed. He completed the edits at no additional cost. He submitted a full set of structural drawings and design calculations to the township. We were able to get the permit from the first time. He followed up with our Contractor until the project was completed. Thank you Mina, we really appreciate all your time, patience, and support.
