.
Very competent, they had the right equipment with them, and I have a great picture with over 100 channels between Chicago and Milwaukee. I will use them again for some additional CAT5 wiring I want to do in the future.
I initially simply wanted my tv antenna realigned after having the wind turn the antenna so that I wasn't receiving any channels. The initial phone call with AV-Techs, Marcos told me that my antenna was old and should be replaced with a HD antenna. He assured me that the channels wouldn't lose reception like my current antenna did when it was properly aligned. When AV-Techs was installing my antenna, the new antenna didn't look as well constructed as the old antenna. I questioned Marcos but once again was assured that the new antenna would fix all of my viewing problems. Then Marcos suggested that he should replace my antenna cable and add an amplifier, which would require him to go into the attic. Considering that all I initially wanted was to have my current antenna realigned and he had assured me that the new antenna was such a big improvement over my old antenna, I declined the extra work. Still concerned about the quality of the antenna, I did some research. It turns out that the antenna they installed has a range of 80 miles if a pre-amp ($24) is used, which is installed on the antenna mast. Menards, which is where they purchased the antenna, also carries an antenna with a 100 mile range (with pre-amp installed) for only ~$30 more. Well, signal strength varied during the course of the day and across days. When I contacted AV-Tech and informed them of the problem and asked why they didn't install the longer range antenna and the pre-amp, I was told that they have installed many of these antennas and have never had a problem. AV-Techs agreed to come out and take a look. The day before they were to come out, they called. AV-Techs told me that they would need to change the antenna cable and splitter and probably add an amplifier. When I asked what he would do if there was no improvement after changing the antenna cable, his response was that he is certain it would correct the problem. I asked him the same question 3 more times and his response was he was certain it would correct the problem. Recall that Marcos had told me that he has installed many of these antennas and I am the first to have a problem. Not once did he indicate that he would not charge me if the problem wasn't remedied. I again asked him why he hadn't installed the longer range antenna or at least a pre-amp? His response was that if he were to install a new amplifier, I wouldn't need a pre-amp; really didn't answer my question. During the installation, Marcos tossed the old antenna off the roof. I would have thought that he would have taken is away but it is still laying on the grass. So, I paid $200 for a $70 antenna and the reception is no better than with my old antenna. By the way, Menards has the 100 mile range antenna on sale this week for under $80.
