James took the time to listen to us and understand what we were looking for. We had drainage issues from the neighbors yard and James had a workable solution that was easy on our budget. His team removed some LARGE trees and a multitude of small trees and completely ground all the stumps down. We were looking for someone to replace our backyard privacy fence and James suggested a vendor. We got bids from four fence vendors and selected the man James recommended, who did an excellent job. James took the time to show me how our current sprinkler heads could be adjusted to water the new sod we had installed. I highly recommend James for any landscape work you would need done. - John Crowder, Flower Mound, TX

Buyer Beware is the best advice we can offer when it comes to hiring James. If he is not busy, everything is good and he is easy to work with, but if he gets a larger job everything changes. First, he starts telling you how busy he is now and how he is working on these much bigger jobs in these more prestigious (than yours) neighborhoods. We contracted him to do a job for over $8,000. He did not have any work at the time and promised to delivery on our timeline. We were upfront about other projects (fencing and pool) we had going on and the fact that he would need to be flexible to work around them. He said he was good with that but then started doing things that did not match his words. First, he dumped decomposed granite around our fence and driveway knowing that it could not be installed until after the fence was stained. It ended up sitting there for 3 weeks collecting leaves and debris. The day before James was to install our trees, sod and plants, he came by and dropped off the plants and trees in the driveway. We were home at the time but did not have time to thoroughly look at the trees and plants just then. Later that evening, after having had a chance to review the plants and trees, we contacted James to express concerns with the health of some of the plants and all of the trees. This was a few weeks after the â big freeze and we were concerned that they were showing signs of having been damaged and some were possibly dying. Who wants to have dying plants and trees installed? All he kept saying was that he did not know what we were talking about, and the plants and trees were perfect. Then, he started repeatedly saying, well, maybe I am not the contractor for you.â Ultimately, we told him that we should all think about that point and talk in the morning. When he came out the next morning, we all agreed it was best to stop the work where it was, not install the plants and trees, and just move on. We had already advanced James $2,000 for the installation of the decomposed granite; to build and fill a rock bed behind the pool and to install edging around the pool equipment. So, we agreed that he would complete that work and we would call it even. He did a good job on the rock bed behind the pool but decided to confiscate the extra stone that he did not use (which we felt we had paid for) without discussing it with us at all. He put edging around the pool equipment, but it was not done correctly. He also did not install the decomposed granite correctly. It was spread out and tamped down, but not thoroughly compacted with a machine or tooling. We have hired another landscaper to fix what James did not do correctly and complete the rest of the landscaping work. Every landscaper that we spoke to in the process of finding a new one commented that the decomposed granite was not installed correctly and would need additional work. In the end, the fact that we will end up spending a few more dollars to have the work done right, is not worth losing sleep over. We just do not want anybody else to fall for the bait and switch we feel like we got from James. .
Response from Company:
They say the Nastier a person is the more pain they're feeling on the inside. I pray for healing for Rosetta, her family, and any other poor contractor that may be subject to her ANGER ABUSE. I should have never accepted the work from such a MEAN person with an attitude. Such a shame...

I was impressed with James from the first phone call, where I was simply looking for insight, to the consultation, where he spent a great deal of time understanding my vision for our front landscaping. He even walked the rest of the outside of the house with me to give me ideas and solutions for future projects. So beyond helpful! Leading up to the install, James worked with me on plant selection in detail, and set proper expectations. We even added a stone pathway at the very last minute and James was able to accommodate. Customer service is #1 priority for me, and his and his guysâ was top notch. The install was thorough, professional, and quick! He truly over-delivered. I was wanting a five senses landscape - something that was interesting to touch, smell, see, taste, hear (bring on the birds and wildlife). James delivered just that. I now meander through my flower bed and ooo and aaaa at each plant, appreciating what each brings to the landscape. Thank you, James, for our custom landscaping! It is perfect. I canâ t wait for our next project, we will be calling you!

James spent time understanding what I wanted and offering professional advice on how to maximize my landscape within budget. His team did high quality work and he even came out ahead of another contractor to help communicate the plan to them and coordinate. I will stick with Poolscape Design for any projects they can help with.

James and his crew exceeded our expectations. He gave us some great ideas on how to remodel our backyard around our pool. His work was timely and his crew cleaned up the work area. We worked through some complicated drainage issues. It looks great and as a bonus, the job came in a little under the original estimate. I will use Poolscape Design for future projects and would recommend them to my friends.

James was very easy to work with. Crew was on time and very fast. We are thinking about a phase 2 project for the front yard. The only issue is that cleanup from taking out shrubs, plants, etc could have been better. My only suggestion would be for a more thorough clean up going forward. I have to admit weather was not great.Would we use them again? Yes

James and his employees did a beautiful job with our stone curbing and landscape design. James listened to our vision, did exactly what he said he woukd do, and finished in a timely manner. He was recommended to us by someone who had used him on three of their landscape projects. We do not hesitate to recommend him.

James definitely went the extra mile. Listened to my ideas and incorporated into the overall design. He was very particular about plant selection. The finished product is beautiful and blends very well with my existing landscape. Finished product far exceeded my expectations (and I m pretty fussy about my garden) and the cost was very reasonable.
