Needed gas fireplace maintenance. They came by, diagnosed the problem quickly, told me the part to order and said that I could actually fix it myself when I get it - no charge! But when I received the part from Amazon I asked them to come back to install it. Their office is only about a mile from my house in Fairfield, but the day they came they were working in Berkeley - obviously very popular! They showed up, put the part in, did a little troubleshooting, and we had a working fireplace again! They were very nice and professional and inexpensive - I would definitely hire them again for any HVAC problem. Lucky to have them so close.

TL;DR Do not recommend Matt Kazen, stay away! Long version - our designer hired him to install a split heat/cool system for our ADU. She had used him before and thought highly of his work. First red flag - he asked for $5000 up front before he would show up to install it. After installation, the unit would not turn on. He sent other employees to look at it but then we heard crickets. Finally after some sleuthing by our designer it turns out that Matt told the electrician to install a 220V circuit for the unit initially as he intended to get a 220V system. But apparently after looking at our space, he decided a 110V system would be sufficient but forgot the wiring was incompatible. Long story short, the system was fried. We were told it will take 6 months for a new circuit board. When we said this was unacceptable especially since we already paid for everything, he agreed to buy a new system for us but only if the electrician split the pricing of the unit with him. The electrician refused (because he only did what he was told). Since then, Matt has basically ignored all our phone calls as well as phone calls and texts from our designer (who previously had been his primary point of contact. Very unprofessional. We are now out of $5000 and have been waiting 2 months for this to be resolved. Next steps, I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and looking into legal action.

Matt came in and replaced a bad ignitor and cleaned what needed to be done in our furnace, when almost all others only would replace the whole thing. He was done in 15 minutes and we have heat! And the price was great! Such wonderful service even in this covid-19 climate, we all had on mask and social distanced!

I have an old floor furnace that needed to meet PGE standards before gas could be turned back on. He insured that it was and re established gas flow. Hardly anyone would touch it and I was without it for over 2 years. Not only did Matt fix it within an hour, but also restored electrical power in my garage in a separate issue. Highly recommended. Not cheap, but if you want quality, Kazen HVAC is a name you can trust to get it done right in a most expeditious manner.
