How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because the hearth industry is very specialized field which I can offer my customers all my years of experience that no one else can. Also I love what I do, as it shows from my customers finished jobs everytime. I have been in the masonry and fireplace industry since 1983 doing installation, service, sales, along with being a National Service & Technical Training manager for a national fireplace company for 12 years. With this experience, my customers do appreciate my detailed and accurate work, giving them the satisfaction of knowing with over 34 years experience, they have a finished job they can be very proud of..

The work was at a commercial location. The technician worked late and got us up and running on the same day that I made the initial contact. First time we used them, and are now planning to setup annual preventative maintenance at multiple locations.

Was contacted immediately after I put my info into Home Advisor. Appointment for the chimney cleaning was made and promptly fulfilled in a very professional manner. I was very pleased with the cost as well. I inquired about replacing my chimney cap and Darren promptly showed me a catalog that allowed me to select the one I wanted. Darren ordered the cap and returned within ten days to install it. Again, I felt the cost was quite reasonable. I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Darren cleaned our wood stove chimney and we asked him to inspect it as well, since we had been experiencing water leaks which the original installer was unable to resolve. He identified the issues, submitted an estimate, and fixed it promptly. He is very responsive, and he sticks to his schedule and estimates.

He came further for the check out of his normal circle of service. Very friendly, very knowledgeable and helped to show us how we can use our fireplace. Made us feel like we had no dumb questions. Treated our home like it was important taking much care in cleaning after himself, and in keeping area clean during work.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
