How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because the hearth industry is very specialized field which I can offer my customers all my years of experience that no one else can. Also I love what I do, as it shows from my customers finished jobs everytime. I have been in the masonry and fireplace industry since 1983 doing installation, service, sales, along with being a National Service & Technical Training manager for a national fireplace company for 12 years. With this experience, my customers do appreciate my detailed and accurate work, giving them the satisfaction of knowing with over 34 years experience, they have a finished job they can be very proud of..

Darren was very friendly and professional - I had to cancel our app't due to a work commitment and was concerned I'd have to wait weeks to reschedule - he offered to come the day before in the evening which was so helpful. He was on time, thorough, made no mess at all (which I kind of expected for a fireplace that hadn't been cleaned in years) and charged exactly what he had quoted. In addition, the fireplace looked like new again just as he had promised and works wonderfully! He was friendly as could be, and even gave us some fresh peaches and tomatoes from his garden on his departure! We are planning to renovate the tile and mantel around our fireplace in the next year and he talked me through things to think about, potential costs, and options. I can't imagine ever using anyone else - my husband and I could not have been more thrilled with his service. I can recommend him absolutely and without reservation. We are very, very happy!

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
