The finished product looks fairly good until you look at the details. Grout lines not even, shower curb slopes away from drain, shower floor not draining and does not have proper slope. Shower pan not installed to manufacturers specifications to even be warranted by the material manufacturer. ie. zero pre-slope before membrane, zero water leak test on the membrane, mud base was so wet when poured that proper 1/4 inch per linear foot could not be maintained, and the weep holes are filled with wet mortar so they won't be able to drain any water that gets past the tile and grout. Waterproof Redgard liquid was applied on top of the mortar base but to the spread rate of less than that of a general waterproofing specification by the maker of Redgard. The slope was attempted by using thinset on top of the Redgard but was not fully achieved in all areas of the shower floor. You might ask how I know what is correct and what is supposed to be. Well I looked on the Internet to the many, many, many articles on how to know if your shower is being built correctly and all the things not being followed by our great builders in the home building industry. I was told by salesman he would be inspecting to make sure it was being done to code, so I didn't need to have permits pulled or inspectors coming around that he would make sure it was done correctly. I called him after the tile was put on shower floor and told him it was not correct, he came by and asked the tile installer to redo some of the tile to correct slope only. I even told the installer in a conversation that if it were me doing job I would remove it and start over from beginning, very little material cost involved at that time. A few days later when the wall tiles were being installed I checked and could run a piece of paper behind the tiles 9 inches in the middle of 12x24 inch tile without even getting wet by fresh thinset. The next day the tile was removed and reset using more thinset. From this point I decided to just shut my mouth and let them work in hopes they will just get finished since bathroom had been down for over a month and I was tired of delays. Had a discussion with salesman concerning problems with how the pan was built and shower not draining very well but did not convince him it should be torn down and rebuilt. About the only good thing coming out of this ( I think) is that Gardner Custom Construction agreed to cover the installation and workmanship for 5 years instead of the usual 1 year and in writing.
