Horrible contractors. I got a quote after a scheduling mishap and they offered me a discount before they even started (red flag). I then was enticed and hired Five Guys Property Maintenance to construct a deck staircase and landing off of a back door entrance. The landing needed to be built over existing crumbling cement stairs and upon first inspection the deck looked decent. Pressure treated wood and deck screws with a new look on the back of the house. After a closer look and the first ?trip? down the stairs, it was easy to see that the build had been rushed and completed incorrectly. Improper stair height, improperly sunk screws into the deck cause loose screws and raised screw heads with splinters pushed up, uneven handrail joints, loose fitting and uneven spaces deck boards and disconnected miters were visible. The steps had different tread heights and the bottom stair was almost 10? (code says stairs should be approximately 7 3/8?, I had to research this myself after their builders said otherwise). After being disappointed with the contractor, I was called by the company and asked how my deck was working out and I complained. I was suspicious of the inabilities of the contractor so I hired an inspector and my suspicions were confirmed with a failed inspection due to improper stair tread heights and I was then informed there was no cement in the structural supports for the bottom handrails when I specifically requested cemented 4x4 support columns for the deck. I informed Five Guys of the issues remaining and my utter dissatisfaction with their inability to follow instructions as well as the unprofessional-ism of their staff. They sent out their ?foreman? who turned out to be the builder that built the deck in the first place and he reassess the problems only to argue with me about the fact that I should have told them about the issues before they left the first building session. He then left the property without repairing the issues because he had a problem with me pointing out his flawed construction after the fact. He said I could take it up with his boss and he stormed off. His boss called me back to apologize and offered to fix the issues again and that he would be present with the foreman. They sent out the same Foreman next, and the boss Nathan was not there to supervise. So, they made another mess of the deck, fixing two of the three problems. They repaired the bad miter joint on the corner of the hand railing but adjusted the staircase as to create another unsafe step at the top of the landing instead of the bottom. In their rushed work, they pried the screwed in boards off of the staircase, causing holes in the planks, and reused them after moving them up a few inches in a failed attempt to make the staircase code compliant, all while leaving a holy set of risers on the new staircase. One headache after another, these builders have been more of a pain than anything. Now I?m stuck with unsafe stairs and I can?t trust the company that built them to repair them, so I have to have it rebuilt all while I still ?owe? these scum buckets for the bad build. I wish I wouldve never hired them in the first place. DO NOT HIRE THESE PEOPLE!
