Capitol City Wood Works

I believe in life, the universe gifts us people when we need them. Mike and his crew at Capitol City Wood Works were one of these universal gifts our family was lucky to receive. We met Mike about 6 months ago, shortly after my FIL had passed away and my MIL could no longer take care of the house. Our goal was to sell the house. The first problem...the back deck (55ft x 25ft) with a not working pool (33ft x 20ft) in the middle of the deck needed major repairs and code upgrades. The second problem, my husband & I live across the country & were overseeing the repairs from 1,300 miles away. Using Angie's list we found 3 different contractors to interview for the job. Each interview we stated we wanted the deck to be safe, use the structure that is there and look good. Mike was the only contractor that did two important things: 1. he sought to understand our unique situation of distance & selling the house 2: he listened to what we wanted for repairing the deck rather than a new build

Mike Griffin and his team do great work - a few years ago we had them build a garden gate and gazebo, working from our design ideas and taking it to an artistic level - we still get compliments on the gate with its unique grille design! This latest job was mostly repair of an older deck including a new cover, a water-damaged patio enclosure and replacing a section of fence. So, a diverse set of building repair skills/techniques, all handled by Mike's crew in one job. John's masonry repair on the patio post is excellent, for example. Mike is very thoughtful and creative about problem-solving with older homes that have been remodeled several times. He assessed some roof damage as well and gave me advice on when it should be replaced.

Mike Griffen has vast experience and integrity. The initial bid was for the wood planking replacement for a small deck and a fence repair. After demolition of the upper planks, the support under structure was found to be rotten also. He immediately gave me another estimate for structural work and replacement. Working with Mike and the crew from Capitol City Wood Works was an absolute pleasure! They did an outstanding job replacing the roof structure of our patio and stabilizing supports for our 3rd-floor deck. Mike was detailed in the estimate and the time needed. The crew was professional and careful and the fence and gates look great. The job was completed in a timely manner and cleanup was also thorough. My neighbors have commented on how good the new fence looks. And, my dog is happy and secure exploring the yard.

Mike and his fabulous crew took on a large project at my residence which entailed replacing a lot of old wood around the windows of my 1964 Northwest Hills home, plus repainting the entire exterior top to bottom. Not only did they do a fantastic job, Mike had his crew really organized in terms of scheduling the work in the proper order, taking detailed notes and photos, and letting me know of any additional issues as they came up. Every house project always spawns more ideas for changes and Mike was super helpful in doing some interior work (removing some old doors and creating archways), and even did a great job power washing my standing seam metal room when it came into my mind that maybe that needed to be done. He is currently helping me select and go through the process of replacing my front door as well as installing some sliding doors that lead from the kitchen to the patio & outdoor living area. He is very detailed, focused, caring and truly wants the best for his customers. I trust his word 100% and he will be my go-to person in the future for any additional nutty home improvement ideas I might have. I had an excellent experience with Mike and his team.

I canâ t say enough about how awesome Mike and his CCWW team are. I had the siding and windows replaced on my house and the attention to detail was amazing. I was replacing old siding and I knew there would be unknown issues when it came down and Mike was prompt and clearly communicated the issue, fix and costs. His team is awesome and they take pride in their work, they donâ t rush things and Iâ ll mention again the attention to detail is fabulous. Like other reviews here, I agree that the original builders were not always precise and Mike and team paid attention to that, straightened things up and made sure the job was done right. Iâ ll definitely use CCWW for my next project!

Did not see the exact topic here but he worked on our Lattice work around our pool deck and did an amazing job. the staining was perfect and just overall excellent job done!

Mike and his crew came in to clean up a fence job that another contractor did a poor job on. Such a difference in professionalism, quality work and communication. Don't make our mistake, go with CCWW in the first place.
