I hired Down South Landscaping & Maintenance to do a "fall clean up" of my recently purchased property, which had not been properly maintained for a number of years. Michael Austin of Down South was one of the first to respond to my post on Angi. As requested, he promptly provided a detailed estimate for cleaning the yard and beds including, application of preemergent weed control. I also obtained and accepted Down South's remarkably reasonable estimate to trim all the bushes. Michael kept me informed about his schedule and arrived promptly on the morning we had targeted to begin the work. Michael worked side by side with his crew to complete the project within budget, and ahead of plan. More important, the quality of his work was outstanding. The lawn, beds, bushes, and previously untended "woods" look spectacular. I couldn't be happier--- so happy, that after receiving very reasonable written estimates, I have chosen Down South to handle my landscape maintenance including mowing, semi-annual clean-ups, gutters, and snow plowing as needed. ⁹

I called today, and I called several landscapers. I needed a project done today as a surprise for my daughter Mike was the only one that called me back in a timely fashion and said heâ d be here in 30 to 45 minutes and he was I need to exactly what I asked him to. Thank you Mike my daughter was so surprised I left your card for her to use when I go back home to Illinois

We have had a series of issues with our lawn this year…our lawn was in terrible shape. Mike came in and gave us an assessment of what we needed and is working to get our yard back in shape. Really appreciate his efforts…

Michael Did a fabulous job. More importantly he was friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful of me, my home, my time, and my money. Prices quoted were great, and he was efficient in his work. I will definitely be using him for my lawn care for the rest of the season and will probably plan some actual landscaping for next spring.

Michael was completing some work for a neighbor of mine. I questioned him about an estimate on removing some bushes in my front and back yard. He gave me a price, which was great. This was mid-November. I told him that I was not in any hurry, and he could take his time with the job, as long as he was finished with the job by the time mowing season arrived. I told him that I wanted them removed by the root, so I could mow over that area and redo the landscaping in the front of the house. It is now mowing season. He has removed 5 of the 10 bushes outback, not by the root, therefore I have to find someone to grind down the stumps. I cannot mow over them. He has removed all of the bushes out front but left several roots, and I will have to find someone to remove those as well. I have always had to reach out to him, and when I did he would say he would be here that week but never showed up. I have debated on leaving this review as he is a very nice young man and a small business. I understand that he is busy, and I did advise him that he could take his time. But I am very disappointed in the service and work not completed.

I HAD A ONE-HOUR CONVERSATION WITH HIM HERE AT MY HOME, AND BEING THE GOOD JUDGE OF CHARACTER THAT I AM, I HIRED HIM ON THE SPOT. HE IS WILLING AND ABLE TO CREATE THE AMBIANCE I WAS LOOKING FOR IN THE GARDENS SURROUNDING THE HOME. I AM IMPRESSED. HE IS A FINE YOUNG MAN, PLEASANT TO SPEAK WITH, EDUCATED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE IN EVERY ASPECT OF GARDENING. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH. MR. MICHAEL AUSTIN IS THE EPITOME OF PROFESSIONALISM.
