Reviews
Write a ReviewI was not happy with their service and I will not use them again in the future.
It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was okay. I thought that they had rushed it. When we got the estimate, they had already told us it was going to take 2 and a half days and instead they did it in 1 day into the night and so they messed up a lot of stuff because it was dark. They had to come to do some touch up works.
im sorry to here that you seemed very well pleased with avery thing we did around your old house we made it look good again I'm so very sorry i though you were happy if there is anything just let me no ok
Todd and his crew arrived on on time and ready to work. They were personable and easy to communicate with. Todd had already helped to pick a color that changed by fog gray house to a sunshine yellow beauty. The crew put in regular days for 2 full days and most of the 3rd day.  The work was completed on schedule and the clean-up was very good.
The back of the garage and workshop gets the most sun, and the paint was deteriorating, while the rest of the house is in reasonable shape. Â The Angie's List offer of 1300 square feet of painting for $1299 seem like a good chance to take care of that area. It is possible I may call Milne Painting when I am ready to do the whole house, or parts of the interior.
The contractor arrived on time and performed all the work in a timely manner. The quality of the work was excellent. I would use them again.
I've waited over a month since the painting was done hoping Milne painting would get back to me to complete the job and fix the problems. I still haven't heard from them, so this review includes this fact. The deal was for 2 painters for a day- Todd came out and looked at my townhouse (988 square feet) and said it couldn't possibly be done in 2 days for $480. I asked him to send me an estimate for the entire house- he came back with an additional $1100 to do the woodwork and ceilings - I resposded to the email and said let's just do the original - $480 for 2 painters for a day. The two painters arrived at a reasonable time, and were very personable. They completed the walls in about 8 hours. I checked their work and it looked ok based on what I could see at the time. Later in the evening as lighting changed, I found they had completely missed an area in the master bedroom, about 36" long and 2-3 inches high. There was an area on a wall facing that had been missed and there were dirty fingerprints above the window. I also noticed that one of the painters did not tape any of the floorboards- and there was a lot of paint on them- already dried. In another room, they took the blinds down, but didn't put them back- and in another room, there was a section about 4" wide the length of the wall, that didn't get painted. All of the mirror edges on 3 mirrors were covered with dry paint. One of the painters was good about using drop clothes and taping off necessary areas - the other did not do so, when I asked him aobut it, he said he was able to paint fine without it. Unfortunately, that was not the case as every floorboard on the walls he painted is covered with paint. All the furniture had to be moved to the center of the room, standard practice and not a problem. But because no drop clothes were used, I have paint splashes on much of the furniture. I emailed them about the things that needed to be fixed, even sent pictures and received an automated response that they had recieved my email and would get back to me. 5 weeks later they still have not done so, which is why I'm not able to provide them with a better grade.
Todd and his crew were very hard workers, who checked with me frequently about various issues and made sure I knew what was happening at all times. The suggestions that Todd made were smart ones, that enhanced the finished product. I've never seen harder workers who, on some days, worked more than ten hours. Their dedication to making me happy with the paint job, made them by far the best painting crew I've hired in the 33 years I've lived in my home. I've had the house painted several times over the years and the Milne crew was the best! I highly recommend Milne Painting and am grateful for their dedication to doing a great job for a very reasonable price. I can't recommend them highly enough!
thank you
we decided to use Milnes to paint our house based on the Big Deal they were offering as well as the mostly great reviews. it took a few days to get an estimate for the job. it was more than the deal as our house was pretty big, but we expected that. when we finally started to get the job scheduled, they said the job would go from Monday through Friday but as the house was so big it might have to go to the following week starting on Wednesday as they had another job scheduled. Again, we were fine with that. where it started to go South was getting a call at 9pm on Sunday night before the job was supposed to start saying the van broke down and they would start Tuesday. due to my husbands and my schedule, I scheduled myself to take Tuesday off as we only had one car. didn't find out until Tuesday after 9am that they were not coming as the van was still broken. Todd's assistant CJ told me she left a message for me, but there was none on any of my phones (work, home or cell) Needless to say, if I knew that they were not coming, I would have scheduled my day differently. I understand things happen, but I really wish they communicated to me better. I can forgive a lot as long as you tell me things. the only time this would not have been an issue is if the it happened on the way to the job... they came on Wednesday to power wash the house. Thursday was scrape, sand and prime. Friday they showed up before 6am and woke up my husband (who wears earplugs, I had left for work already) which means I am sure they woke up my neighbors. they started painting the house and stayed until 8:30pm. they came back on Saturday and finished up things. so the job went from up to 8 days down to 3.5. they only painted one coat. they told me to get a total of 22 gallons of paint. the paint store only had 17 so that is what I picked up. a total of 14 was used so while it is good we have some extra, I am glad I didn't buy the extra paint. however if they put up the 2 coats as I was actually expecting, I wouldn't have complained. but as they did this job so fast I am wondering what corners they cut. also, these guys chat, bicker and banter all the time. there is no time when they don't talk it seems. this was a bit unnerving at times. and the last nail in the coffin was that they painted all but one window shut. we live in an older home (Craftsman) with the original sash windows. Experienced painters should know they would need to open said windows when painting. we didn't think to test the windows until later, when it was rather warm. The response we got from Todd was that he would come out 'next week'. I am sorry, but that sort of thing doesn't sit well with me and considering we already paid them, there was actually no incentive for them to come back. I asked for a date and got from CJ that she 'understood and would try'. I hated to have to do this but I informed them that we would cancel the check and reissue payment once the windows were open. I got a call 2 minutes later and was told that they would arrive Monday first thing. They came Monday and unstuck the windows, but wanted to make sure we really used the windows. as I said before. I can forgive a lot as long as I am told what to expect and in a timely fashion - I know last minute things are unavoidable, but pretty much everything that went wrong on this job could have been averted if they communicated things to us ahead of time
It took a couple of weeks as expected. Todd & Mark did a pretty good job with removing the old paint. Was a bit disappointed with the pricing as I purchased an Angie's List big deal and it didn't seem that I received any real discount from it, as I received the overall quote and it seemed like what I paid for the big deal was used, not what the value of the deal. Overall the job was done well, although had them come back out a couple of times for minor issues.
Todd estimated home on wrong day and I was not present. Because of this there was some misunderstandings on the quote. Todd and I negotiated additional work to a mutual agreement and proceeded. Joe and John were outstanding. The quality of workmanship was Grade A and was done on time. I would highly recommend this company
