Write a ReviewThe estimate for my move was far from accurate. And when I had to pay hundreds more, Schleppers would not work with me to lower their charges or to establish any sort of payment plan. I was forced to pay the much higher entire bill that day or the crew would not finish moving in my things. I felt very manipulated and taken advantage of.
We did not provide an estimate for this move; the job was hourly, so we provided an hourly rate. To make the move go faster, and to save you money, we provided an extra mover at no charge. You gave a generous tip suggesting you were happy with the movers and their pace. We all appreciate that so thank you. You then asked that in addition to the extra mover we provided, we discount the move and provide a payment plan. This is not how it works and our payment terms are what they are and are standard in the industry. At the end of a job, we simply collected according to the terms of our agreement without renegotiating.
Great company and a really top class experience overall with Hugo, Lupe Raoul, Christian and Jose all courteous, hard working and thorough. D
The movers were helpful, kind, friendly, efficient and took good care of all my furniture. I was totally satisfied. I am going to hire them again for the completion of my move this week. Review by Patricia S. in Los Angeles, CA
Very professional. Took care of my fragile items and they all arrived safely. Quick and efficient, they were a pleasure to work with. They provides a website that helped me with changing my address and hooking up my new utilities! I would highly recommend them!
The team was quick, efficient, with all furniture arriving in good shape. The move was completed much quicker than I expected. The price was as estimated with no surprises.
The team showed on time, were polite, wore masks, and were very efficient. They were careful with the furniture and my home. A perfect experience.
The team at Shleppers was responsive and communicative throughout the entire process - two things that are hard to come by. They were flexible and took time to make sure all of our needs were met. They asked for feedback to help improve our experience and sincerely took this into consideration during their work. It is rare to find an organization that communicates with and truly cares about its clients. 10/10 would recommend them to others.
I have moved internationally over nine times and can easily say this is the worst inexperienced movers I have come across. To start, their crew were mainly loaders not packers, they did not know how to handle sensitive items or delicate furniture, the first thing they did was negotiate their tips. I paid over TWENTY THOUSAND Dollars for Professional packing and care, and what I got instead was a terrible job and bad attitude. The did not only break our irreplaceable china items, but they also scratched/broke my unique furniture, paintings, lamp shades and valuables. I had to guide their inexperienced crew on how to wrap and pack items and provided them with warping foam and wood packing crates to protect my items, yet the result was a disaster. To add pain to injury, the crew members insisted on their negotiated tip and the company claimed that they needed a bigger truck as the volume was larger than what they anticipated and asked for an extra amount of $1,650 on top what they received already. I was obliged to pay to release my shipment. When we received the shipment, I was shocked to see that they sent the wooden crates which I provided them for protection of my items EMPTY, we also received two boxes which belonged to another client and had missing items which they stated they could not locate. I sent them over 30 pictures of the broken/damaged items and their customer care person asked me to contact the insurance company as they could not help. No apologies No regrets but simply a careless attitude. We are literally in pain seeing our valuables which we owned for over 25 years and have been moving with them from country to country DAMAGED. I will NEVER RECOMMED
Hello. We did not move you. We are located in California and do not service NY. This review is for the wrong branch as we service California.
Shleppers Moving represented itself as a moving company but acted as a broker. After picking up my items on 7/22/21, Shleppers stored my items in a warehouse for 34 days until I filed a complaint with FMCSA demanding that they be delivered. Then Shleppers sub-contracted my move by posting the job on a trucking bulletin board. On 8/24/21, before loading my items on the sub-contracted truck, Shleppers Director of Operations Jesse Heeber called me and demanded that I pay my remaining balance by cashiers check immediately. Knowing this is illegal, I refused and lied that I would have the check within the day. Jesse therefore consented to load the truck to begin the cross-country drive. On 8/28/21, a driver with a rented truck and one month experience driving arrived at my house. Instead of a moving crew employed by Shleppers, the driver brought his skinny teenaged nephew and a severely mentally disabled man to unload the truck. The mentally disabled man was unable to read words or numbers, or to follow simple directions, so he placed literally every box in the wrong room and almost every one on the wrong floor. At one point, his pants fell down around his knees and another mover had to help him secure his pants. The **movers** were not strong enough to move much of my furniture, and they dropped and broke several pieces including a bookshelf and credenza. They also dropped a large desk several times, cracking my house walls in 3 places and breaking a bannister; they significantly scratched floors and doors as well. The mentally disabled man also fell on furniture around the house, breaking two pieces of a bedframe and shattering a floorlamp. The estimates for repairs to the house alone are around $20,000. After 11 hours of unloading, at 1 AM, they gave up and left, leaving some of the heaviest pieces of furniture outside, and others downstairs that were supposed to be upstairs. I have spent the intervening weeks moving my own boxes to the correct floor and room, and I have had to pay new movers to move the pieces of furniture that were left outside and downstairs. I have also recorded more than 10 items that are broken or completely missing, including 2 tables which likely simply did not fit in the rented truck. By acting as a broker, Shleppers allowed my move to be completed by completely unqualified, untrained individuals whom I have no recourse against. By sub-contracting the job to inappropriate workers, and by allowing my items to be shoved pell-mell into a small moving truck, Shleppers dramatically increased the likelihood that my items would be mishandled and damaged. I paid Shleppers for the specific work of loading, driving, and unloading my items with their own workers in a specific long-haul truck with designated areas to protect breakable items. I did not receive what I paid for because of Shleppers fraudulent posing as a moving company when it in fact acts as a broker.
Hi Jen. Sounds like this move did not go so smoothly and we are sorry to hear that. We do hope you will file a claim for any damaged items. To address some of the other comments so that others can benefit and to clear up any confusion: We are not brokers. With our long-distance deliveries, of which we do thousands a year, we must interline for certain deliveries if we do not have a truck heading to a particular location (no moving company has a truck going everywhere all the time). This is not brokering and there is nothing at all wrong with this practice: it's how long-distance moving works. Regarding payment--requiring a customer to pay by check is not illegal. Companies may specify how they are paid. Indeed, companies do this all the time if they suspect that a customer plans to reverse payment or otherwise steal services. It is common. And in long-distance deliveries, requiring payment in advance of delivery is allowed, and universal. Your items were in our warehouse. This is common in the transportation industry especially during peak season and we had very minimal delays relative to the industry at large. When we have delays, we store the items and do not charge for them. We also compensate customers for late deliveries. When items cannot be delivered in a large tractor-trailer, they are offloaded into a smaller truck to make delivery. This too is not something wrong--it's how it's done when there is no access as there is no other option. It sounds like the last leg of this move went very poorly--and that's enough to cause all the problems you report. Accordingly, we hope you will file a claim and can assist you with the process.
-inaccurate quotes -customer service was unresponsive -movers were rude and unprofessional
