Write a ReviewWe hired Jeremy Truscott to repair a chimney that was leaking and absorbing water through cracks in the crown along with some other installation issues. There was also some wood damage to the adjacent trim. JT provided a very detailed quote and offered several options to address the issue. After we decided to work with him, he started very quickly as some bad weather was in the forecast. The job was done quickly, clean-up was excellent and we are very happy with the work done. JT emailed us with updates as the job progressed. We would highly recommend JT for chimney repairs.
Jeremy was introduced to me by the founder of the North Bennet Street School preservation carpentry program. He has completed four different projects for us, ranging from antique chimney rebuilding/relining to hardscaping. His work is always on-budget and meticulous, and has garnered numerous compliments, from neighbors and building professionals alike.
Jeremy just completed repairing the shoulders of our chimney replacing the existing brick with bluestone caps. His attention to detail was exceptional and he is truly great at his craft. He arrived when he said he would, charged what he quoted and the left the site as it was before he showed up. Can't ask for anything more than that.
I bought a Shirley, MA house that predates the USA with what I'd seriously describe as an open-air fieldstone basement from decades of neglect (either due to ignorance of lack of funds) coupled with some bowing portions of wall, a spalling central chimney and an addition built over the only bulkhead (no reasonable explanation there, made removing all the rusted water heaters a nightmare). I needed a lot of knowledgeable help, and someone who had hopefully worked on "antique" homes. Called Jeremy and talked over the broad scope, scheduled an estimate in person. He was punctual, transparent and helpful in explaining what he saw as problematic, where work was absolutely necessary, less so, and not at all, what it would take to repair, and how to make the process/results as efficient as possible. Quote seemed very reasonable for the total scope. Had a new block bulkhead dug and installed where someone had once hastily cut a window into the base board beam so all the material wouldn't have to move through my kitchen and front rooms, had probably ~800ft of stonework repointed, rebuilt a section of wall resting on actually one singular fist-sized stone at the beam, put in a doorway between separated sections of basement (one section could only be accessed by a hatch in the first floor), repaired and replaced brickwork as needed on the center chimney/hearth and walled up the old bulkhead for better climate control in the addition. Jeremy had a key to my house for months (he balanced some other jobs and I made it clear I was not in any rush) and never a concern about nefariousness. Work site was always clean between visits (cleaner than I left it by a wide margin, he clearly likes things a certain way). Work was completed as quoted, with increase only for things I added along the way (doorway between sections was not in estimate, Jeremy suggested during the project and I loved the idea) Probably verbose, but maybe someone will like the detail. Long story short, excellent professionalism and ethic, accurate quoting and thoughtful project scoping with efficient execution means I will be keeping this contact and suggesting Jeremy to anyone who may ask. He can also borrow my wood splitter whenever he wants, true to his nature he also returned that cleaner than he got it and with some minor repairs (thanks Jeremy!)
“We have a historic turn-of-the-century home, in Rutland MA, with a fieldstone foundation. Jeremy’s craftsmanship and masonry talent are exceptional. His attention to detail and knowledge of historic stonework were evident as he rebuilt our basement wall to perfection. We highly recommend J Truscott Masonry Services.”
Jeremy did a thorough and quality repair on a challenging chimney leak that was a challenge for others to permanently resolve. He is a skilled craftsmen that does high quality work as contracted and scheduled. He also communicates clearly and frequently on the status of the work he performs.
.
Hired Jeremy to rebuild chimney from roof line up as well as install liner and weather cap. His workmanship is great. Job site was always kept clean during and after completion of the job. I would highly recommend him.
Jeremy was extremely clear in all of his communications with me regarding the job. He explained everything to me, gave me a competitive quote and did the job . The cost came in under the initial estimate and the work area was always clean and organized. I have recommended him to others. It was a pleasure to do business with him.
