The finished product is nothing short of stunning. They have some incredibly talented craftsmen, and everyone that's been by so far is absolutely speechless! We plan to have them back for future projects. Remodeling is stressful and John & Amy worked diligently to address all concerns in a timely manner. We are very happy with the addition to our home.

John is what you want and expect from a professional contractor. He was on time, friendly, honest, and most important, he does great work. He remodeled our master bathroom and did a very outstanding job, and the price was very fair. He also gave us great recommendations on product and procedures. If you are in his working area, I would not hesitate to give him a call.

At our first meeting, it was clear to me that John Hagenbach was a very honest and hardworking individual. His understanding of my goals and budget was exceptional and together we were able to map out the project to add a bay to our garage and to renovate and expand the apartment above our garage where our daughter, son-in-law and two young grandson's live. Having John and his crew at our home was more like having skilled family members working to insure we would have 100% satisfaction. They exceeded our expectations on every level including price, schedule and exceptional workmanship. It should also be said that this was accomplished during one of the severe weather we experienced this winter. FIVE STARS understates the performance of John and his team of craftsmen.

I hired Hagenbach Construction based on a referral from my cabinet vanity vendor who I've done business with 4 years prior. John, his wife Amy, and his crew were AWESOME and the finished bathrooms can easily make an HGTV remodel or magazine feature. They were far better than I ever imagined. I wish I can post some photos here, but hopefully, the finished bathrooms will grace his website. My project involved two bathroom remodels - a master and guest (and the only two in my single story home) over a period of 7-8 weeks. The master bathroom was a total demo of the existing 200 sq. ft. space, on a slab floor and what we believed had post tension cables. It was a complex project, in my opinion, and one I waited on the right contractor to help me with. John was meticulous in the planning of the work, review of my design, and in every aspect of the tricky construction. While I had an initial design from the cabinet vendor, John validated the measurements, size of vanity, walk-in shower, shower seat and niches, placement of the freestanding tub, canned lights and wall sconces, vents, the new pocket door and bathroom door, etc.. The floor tiles and shower tile accent were very intricate, utilizing basketweave floor tiles and a herringbone shower tile accent. They were installed perfectly. John personally laid the shower tile accent on a piece of plywood for me to see and finalize before installation. The wall and placement of the carrara marble subway tiles and chair rails were also carefully planned across the room, so that he can plan for where the cut pieces were going to be. On the 6' x 6' walk-in shower, he assisted in getting me the best neo-angle configuration, with the best 30" door placement. He also guided me in the options for best hot water availability. There is nothing I would change in these bathroom projects and John and his crew were hardworking, meticulous, conscientious about the remodel inconvenience and were always a pleasure to work with. They always showed up early or when they said they would. I would recommend John and Hagenbach Construction to anyone for any project. Contractors like him are a gem, and few and far between. It shows that he and his crew take pride in their work.

I hired John after meeting him through Home Advisor. He was the only contractor to make an appointment, be prompt, listen to my wants and concerns and then send me an estimate and give me all the time I needed to make my decision. I hired John to update my kitchen, skinning the cabinets, removing a pair of cabinets, adding a new hood and dishwasher, and new counters. The work was done beautifully. John and his team take great care in their work. Everyone was prompt, pleasant, and worked worked with extreme care. You can see that they are proud of the end results. I could not be happier.

They did a mid size remodeling project for us. And our experience was very unpleasant. We felt we were misguided by them in several areas and were penalized later. We defined our project to them and they wrote the contract with all the things "they thought" we need and told us we can always do a change order later. And trusting them with the contract turned out to be our biggest mistake. They included building a plywood subtop for granite counter in the contract and later when granite installer did not want a subtop (with 3cm slab) Hagenbach refused to take it off the contract. They actually charged us money to buy ourselves out of that portion of the contract. Similarly they included appliance installation in the original contract and later when the appliance vendor included free installation with the appliances, Hagenbach expected us to decline that free installation and instead pay them several hundreds to do the install. They also insisted they haul debris away from three different parts of the project separately and charge us three times for that. We paid close to a grand just to haul debris away, not including demolition costs. (Bath tile, kitchen counter and kitchen linoleum floor) They removed acoustic (popcorn) ceiling and washed tarps with the acoustic material in my front and backyard. I called John to report that and he just called me a complainer and took no action. Later when they realized the mistake and they tried to clean it up but it is humanly impossible to fully separate dirt and popcorn material. Now I have toxic asbestos in my yard. I should have reported to EPA but I was too tired after all this. Our home inspection recommended a review from a foundation and drainage specialist to understand the source of moisture in crawlspace. Hagenbach called themselves the experts in that area and installed a ventilation fan in my crawlspace that is supposed to sense humidity and turn itself off automatically when not needed. Now when the fan is running non-stop the only solution they have is to turn the humidistat down essentially increasing the moisture level there. To make things worse they installed the noisy fan right under the master bedroom. Bottom line, their bids are above average, their work below average and they are very hard to work with. Did you notice how all the other reviews were written at the same time ?
Response from Company:
We appreciate any and all feedback from our customers, as it allows us to continually improve in our effort to be the most trusted name in residential remodeling construction in the Bay Area. We hold the homeowner's experience throughout the process to be as important as the quality of work that we have been willing to put our family name and reputation behind for over 34 years. As the owner of the company, I felt the need to personally address this review. This was a small remodeling project which consisted of a new shower and some repairs in the bathroom, kitchen, flooring and ceiling, which the homeowner wanted to be completed within 10 days of signing the contract. This was not a project we were originally going to take; however, the homeowner contacted us several times requesting an estimate, as they were in a hurry to move into the home. We agreed to provide an estimate based on all of the items the homeowner wanted completed. After reviewing the estimate, the homeowner shopped around for certain items with other contractors and then requested that we take out some items from the estimate, which we did. We revised the original estimate at the request of the owner several times. Once an agreement was made and the contract was signed, the homeowner continued to request certain items to be removed from the contract. In all, we accommodated 8 items over 4 change orders to be made after signing the contract, all of which any other contractor would have charged at a minimum of $150 per change order. The appliance installation in question was clearly documented as part of the original contract that the homeowner signed, and he did receive a full credit for that installation. Hauling debris away includes the employees' time to load, haul to the dump, fuel and unload. This particular job required 3 full loads of debris, which is customary for the scope of what was completed. With regard to the popcorn ceiling, the homeowner's statements are unfounded. First, we noticed immediately that one of the employees had mistakenly placed some of the popcorn ceiling on a tarp out on the deck and when the tarp was removed some of the popcorn ceiling accidentally fell through the cracks on the deck. I noticed this before anyone and had the employee go under the deck and thoroughly clean it all up immediately. The homeowner did call, but it wasn't until later in the day after the matter had already been dealt with and a plan was in place to have it thoroughly cleaned up. As for toxic asbestos? and homeowner's threats to report our company to the EPA, we are not sure where that came from. We sent a sample of the homeowner's popcorn ceiling to AIH Laboratory in Cerritos, CA, which came out negative for asbestos. We would never knowingly put an employee or customer in danger of toxic chemicals. The UnderAire Crawl Space Ventilator was discussed with the homeowner (via phone and email), and it was made clear that in order to do the j

He was the low bid of what interviewed. We dealt directly with the owner of the company for work. They were very clean and tidy. Hagenbach did some very extensive work for us, and got the work done on time and were able to minimize the disruption.
