Reviews
Write a ReviewDon replaced our old concrete stoop with a custom built deck and cannot recommend Don and his guys enough! We received a few quotes and he was reasonably priced right in the middle. We were so impressed by his work ethic and his attention to detail. He treated our house like it was his own. He was incredibly kind and his communication was top-notch as he made sure we were happy with every decision as the deck was being built. He will be our our go-to for all our projects on our list moving forward.
I talk to the owner Donaven and discussed the work needed. I wanted him to install wood fence post 36â deep and I would do the rest. We agreed on a price but he did not present a contract to me. He was to start on a Monday and did not show up until 12:30pm because he thought it was going to rain. Had trouble digging the holes with his rented auger and had to leave and get another one with a sharper blade. Next day he did not show up until 10am then he had to leave at 1pm and returned about 3 hours later. When I checked the depth of the holes that evening I found the holes to be anywhere from 12â to 24 deep and most were 17 . (The frost line in Ohio is 32-36 depending on the area. ) I called and told him about the issue and said he would be out to look at them. When he showed up he looked at the depth and said he did not want to redo his work and wanted to part ways and I said that was fine with me. The next day he showed up at 10am and wanted to reconsider and finish the job. I said no thanks because I had already hired another contractor to dig the holes to the proper depth. Not only did I have to hire another contractor but he left me 8 post 16 long that I had to cut in half. Although he seemed like a nice guy I would not hire this company as I feel they are not experienced and knowledgeable about building fences.
Although we wanted to finish this job for Dennis, the unfortunate circumstances didnÂ’t allow us. Dennis started off our professional relationship with telling us that he was a very picky person, so to us he was already going into the job with the mindset of not being satisfied. He also stated that he wanted the post 2ft in the ground, which was good for us because we always try to go at least 30ins but try our best to get to 3ft or greater. We did elect to not finish the job after Dennis called us at 8:30pm after we left the job site and stated the post werenÂ’t deep enough for him. So I went back and measuredÂ…Â…there were a couple that werenÂ’t to par but for the most part everything was what he wanted. I even took some pictures of holes that didnÂ’t have post on them that were 30ins or greater. Dennis stated he wanted every single post out and the holes dug back out. WeÂ’ve never walked away from a job unfinished, but we did with this one because Dennis watched us work all day and get 40 post in the ground but waited until 75percent of the work was done to say he wanted it redone. So we felt it was in our best interest to walk away. He also stated there was no time frame for this job, which was also good for us because this was something we could work on between jobs. As far as the auger goes, we did rent one. But as soon as we realized it was dull, we immediately called the rental company and got another so we could continue the job. We showed back up after we decided to walk away from the job the next day because weÂ’ve never left a job unfinished, to finish the job and do even more than he wanted. He elected to go with a another person. He said multiple times he would compensate us for the work that we did do, but we didnÂ’t accept any form of payment because it wouldnÂ’t be right because we didnÂ’t finish the job. Dennis failed to state in his review that he did keep a couple hundred dollars of material money that we were owed. We did let him keep it after a little while because there was no reason to keep this relationship over unpaid material money. And we did buy some 16ft 4x6s but if you cut those in half that work be 8ft which was exactly the length of wood he wanted. As you can see from other other reviews we have a good standing with all our customers. DonÂ’t let this one picky unsatisfying person ruin it for you. Thanks.
The finished composite deck and pergola went far beyond my expectations! I absolutely love my new deck. I so appreciated the expertise and hard work of Don’s crew. As evidence to the caliber of job Don and his crew did, my neighbors and my father are asking for his business cards and setting up appointments for quotes! I would absolutely hire them again for a outdoor project. Thank you Angie for referring Don’s Outdoor Renovations to me.
Went above and beyond to serve my needs to repair front deck
Very helpful with also removing some area for flower bed. Very nice and professional as well!
