I recently purchased a home in Big Blue's service area and hired Big Blue for lawn and landscaping remediation as the lawn and plantings had been massively neglected. I could not have made a better choice. Work includes bringing back an unmowed lawn, weeding, defining and mulching beds around shrubs and roses and regravelling my drive. We will be planting perennials in future. I have recommended Big Blue to two neighbors. Mr. Erven, the owner of Big Blue is handworking, honest and diligent. I would give him six stars if I could. I can only add, that if anyone feels they have had less than excellent service from Big Blue, the problem is with the customer...not Big Blue

Hiring this company was a horrible experience. I cannot warn others strongly enough not to use this company. I hired them to do weed and moss control as well as reseed a badly neglected lawn. * The job was started over two months later than originally agreed upon. * The job was estimated at $500 plus equipment rental, but then a $324 material charge was added. * Following work, the owner claimed that he had started on time, despite text messages backing up that he was supposed to start over two months earlier. * They purchased topsoil in small bags rather than bulk. That is why he was charging $324 for 1.5 yards of topsoil. I typically find good topsoil for around $35 - $45 per yard. * They stated that the topsoil cost was $324, but the total was $195.16 * They charged me additional tax on material that were purchased retail where sales tax was already paid. * No work was done to address my primary concern of heavy weed growth. * After the lawn service I was left with a yard full of weeds and no grass. The yard was not significantly improved by their work. When I asked them to stand behind their work and fix the lawn, they refused. * When trying to find a constructive solution to fix the lawn, I was met with obscenities in our correspondence. The work was done late, over budget, with very poor-quality results and they were very unprofessional. I ended up having to do the job of myself to fix the work they did.
Response from Company:
Wow, never in over ten years of business have I ever run into a customer like this, still haven't seen a dollar from this job, not to mention being out hundreds of dollars for aerator rental and materials that Mark refused to pay for up front! Please disregard this as slander, I am working with Home Advisor to try and have this removed. However because the client did not sign a job order it is difficult. Since Mark has gone out of his way to be disrespectful toward me and my business I feel the need to briefly summarize the situation, and by my outstanding report with my other customers over ten years and other reviews you can decide for yourself. As home owner would not provide rental of aerator to begin job, nor came to meet me at the jobsite at the arranged time at the start of project, these should have been my first serious red flags. I feel this customer was out to take advantage of me from the get go and now it is quite apparent. Also the watering, which was supposed to happen by owner (or his renter) never got done. Hard to grow a new lawn without constant watering the first 2 weeks at least. I made aware customer that this was not a quick fix, but a long term solution. I said come Fall the new growth, top dressing, soil, organic fertilizer, quality seed, soil sweetner and aeration will pay huge dividends and especially the following Spring, which they did because I went by in the fall and the yard is beautiful, just needed the ample water that it was not provided after job was completed. Customer never asked to make it right, just failed to water properly for the first month and a half and then said it was my fault and he wasn't paying me. Before was a mostly dirt, pine needle and weed yard with extremely hard soil that was very acidic. After was an aerated lawn that drained properly, had the soil pH adjusted, pine needles removed, seeds compost, fertilizer, sand and topdress added. Not sure what else can be done besides sod, but obviously Mark is a cheapskate and would never pay for material and labor needed to finish a project like that. If Mark really wanted to get the materials and equipment himself he could have done so, that is what I asked for to begin with, but he didn't want to take the time and he obviously didn't want to pay me for doing it either. My documentation, and before after photos are in the process of being reviewed and hopefully this gets removed. For now I urge anyone to disregard this slander and would definitely not suggest doing work for Mark unless you get him to sign contract after contract and get your money up front. After he threatened me that I couldn't do anything about getting my invoice paid because small claims court won't side with the business owner since a physical contract wasn't signed, I realized that he had probably done this to some other poor small business in the past. Never had a client ever back out on a verbal contract or a handshake from me but apparently there are horribl

They need better equipment than just handtools
Response from Company:
Yes indeed a tractor would have been great but got 42 yds of gravel spread in a day and finished under budget. Not sure it would have helped too much but maybe would not have been as sore ;-) Good client to work for, very straight forward and prompt payment!
