"Several of my family members who live out of the tri-state area had installed fireplace inserts, and they were really pleased with them. The price they paid was considerably less (about 40% less) than the places I checked on Long Island. I wasn't about to overpay for a fireplace insert because I went to a fancy showroom. Looking on Craigslist.com, I found Captain Soot. He asked me to describe my fireplace (which was built in 1962) and provide him with overall outside dimensions and depth of the firebox. He suggested the same model that my family members had installed, and the price was right! I also needed a new chimney which he gave me a good price on. The Captain almost seemed too good to be true. I thought there had to be a catch, but no! He showed up when he said he would, with the fireplace model & finish we discussed, with the new flue, all at the price we discussed and did everything professionally and quickly. "Upon a recommendation from a neighbor, we requested an estimate from Quality 1st for two jobs -- inspect and repair a brick chimney and repair our stone porch which had started to sink. Oscar came out within a couple of days, talked about the project, sent us an estimate and we hired his company. Couldn't be happier. Oscar told us the job would take one day, and we were a bit skeptical about that. But he did it and he did it well! Two crews came out and while one tackled the repair and repointing of our chimney, the other worked on our porch. Watching the crew repair the porch was amazing. We requested all the stones be reused because they were original to the house. When each stone was lifted, it was placed "puzzle-like" on a tarp, and after reinforcement of the sunken parts of the porch, the stones were replaced in the the same manner in which they were removed. The chimney is fixed and no longer losing bricks. We trust every bit of the work performed that day. The crew was friendly, polite, and knowledgeable--and Oscar worked right beside them. I would absolutely hire Quality 1st Maintenance again."

"Took 3 visits but was well worth the time, attention and patience to get the job done right. First day was inspection and quote for repairs/materials. Work started that day to patch the cement crown that was cracked and channeling water down one side of the chimney eroding bricks. A bowed metal plate on the chimney to shed water between the two flue caps was flattened and sealed with cement so it did not show from the ground and so flies would stop entering into the house thru one of the flues. Crumbling mortar was replaced between bricks and bricks were waterproofed. The chimney was measured and the cap to cover the entire chimney was ordered. The 2nd visit got rained out. The 3rd visit was a good weather day and the cap was assembled, installed and cemented in place. It is amazing how strong the animal guard around the 4 sides of the chimney is. The crew at all times was friendly, courteous & very competent being careful to do the entire project as if it was their home."

"After a quick visual inspection of my chimney he gave me an estimate to replace the top flue, fix the crown and install a new stainless steel chimney cap. Eddie and his crew arrived as scheduled and performed the work as promised. As a curtesy, they even removed old antenna straps that were no longer in use on the chimney and blew out the gutters as they cleaned up the work area. Eddie also recommended a new stainless steel chimney liner because the current original liner was degraded and failing. I am extremely satisfied with the work and attention to detail by Eddie and his crew. They are professional and knowledgeable.
