"Andre is a gem of a find as it goes with contractors these days. He does what he says he is going to do, shows up, and is a great problem solver! I hired him for multiple jobs on our total remodel: extensive drywall repairs including ceiling, range fan hood installation, kitchen faucet and plumbing conversion for single sink to double, bathroom and full length closet slider new door installs, minor relocation of our range outlet and deck powerwashing. All these jobs were done very well and any bumps in the road were tackled with the kind of creativity you can only get from a deep base of knowledge and experience. One of his most admirable traits is his persistence; he just doesn't let a project get the best of him. He was always willing to share knowledge, which was invaluable for me as a first time "general contractor". We will most definitely be asking him over to our new house if we have the need!"

"I was referred Western Paver Design by 2 other families in my neighborhood. I got multiple estimates for redoing my backyard and ultimately decided to go with WPD based on how great Joe was during the estimate. I told him what I wanted and he was able to answer all of my questions with great detail. He also provided his input on expertise on what would work best based on our yard. The price was extremely fair based on the final product, the work they did, supplies, and how easy and great the crew was. Darwin led the crew with Marteen and Modesto. I cannot rave enough about how professional and hardworking they were. They came each day and worked incredibly hard transforming our backyard. They were so friendly and a pleasure to work With. Our backyard had sod down that never really took because it was installed poorly and incorrectly by another company. WPD removed it all, raised the backyard to be completely level. They built a retaining wall around the yard, expanded our patio by installing a beautiful and fantastic paver patio (roughly 13x18) and then next to that they added an awesome turf area for our kids. We are incredibly happy with the result! They were so easy to work with, offered a fair and competitive price, and stand by their high quality of work!"

"I was initially unsure hiring them for landscape as they are a construction company. But i was desperate to get the yard mowed and weeded. They are two brothers who started their company in October. The worked like dogs for over two hours. They did a BEAUTIFUL job. The yard has not looked this good in years. The mowed, sprayed, dug weeds, picked up leaves, blew the front and back and totally cleaned up after their work. I would recommend them to anyone. I am having them back to clean the moss off of the roof, and have hired them to come back every two weeks to mow and spray, at least thru the summer. Just got lucky as I called 4 companies and they were the only ones that responded. Just got lucky. GK, M.D."

Frequently asked questions

  • It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
  • You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
  • It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.

Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:

  • Have you completed a job like this before?
  • Do you have a list of references I can contact?
  • When are you able to start the job?

In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.

  • How many years of experience do you have?
  • What’s your permanent business address?
  • Are you licensed to work in my area?
  • When did you earn your business license?
  • How do you handle warranty service complaints?
  • Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?

Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.

Comment: remodel of existing kitchen, stove and appliances are electric. looking for full height (8') cabinets, need to also install proper venting in a townhome. looking at a complete rip out of the existing kitchen down to drywall and building back up. I have a firm idea on appliances, sink and rough layout, but need help on cabinet design and selection. For those I want as mentioned full height, soft close cabinets and drawers, toe-kick drawers, folding pullout steps and Right swing blind corner organizer. Looking for tiled back splash and stone (flexible on exact material) counter tops. One complication is the addition of a proper vent to the outside. Kitchen was designed with a recirculatory that has always been insufficient. It is not located near a window, so an inner core kitchen. Additional projects are in full rebuilds of two master suite bathrooms and a later rework of another to a Japanese wetroom tub. For bathrooms, same thing, take down to dry wall, new flooring, cabinets, converting a tub to a walk into shower, Japanese toilets. House was built in 1999, good electrical and access. No gas lines to deal with an minimal plumbing changes. No issue buying appliances before work starts and storing them on site. Full access to the site while work is going on.
