Write a ReviewExtremely disappointed with Jim Tile. We hired him to replace our carpeted flooring in the main living room and dining room with porcelain wood plank tile, as well as re-tiling the fireplace. Jim promised excellent results due to his 30 years in the business. Completely misleading, his craftsmanship was not up to par. The floor came out very uneven, tiles were not laid evenly so there is lippage between many of them and there are huge gaps and inconsistencies with the grouting. You know it's a poor job every single time you carefully look at it or walk on it with bare feet. During the hiring process, he said he did not outsource, that it was just him and his guys - but the guy he had working with him on my job was obviously new to him based on their interactions. He had left him alone to do some of the work and some of those areas inevitably were identified as problem areas including not matching the layout pattern of the other areas of the floor. I asked him to replace about fifteen or so tiles, which to his credit he did, which made it slightly more tolerable but still completely feels like an amateur job. When I asked why there was unevenness in the floor transition between my laminate flooring I was told "That is just how it is." Infuriating to be told that when you know it's not the case. When I first brought up my dissatisfaction with the progress, he said he mentioned there was going to be slight unevenness in the tiles during the bidding. NO WAY HE SAID THIS - as I never would have agreed. When re-tiling the fireplace, there were uneven tiles (again!) and he did not cut the Schulter at 45-degree angles so there were weird, unmatched grout lines where the pieces met, which I asked him to redo. Again, seeing the imperfections in the work he did, he agreed - but when he regrouted, the grout colors did not match. I didn't call him back because I was just done at this point. So frustrating!! Jim's final result and attitude felt like he considered the work was "good enough" to him - which is unacceptable to me, especially when doing large home improvement jobs. I had another contractor come in and see if there was any way to fix - and nope - not without completely tearing up and redoing, which we don't have the time or budget to do. I lost over $10K to Jim and I am painfully reminded of this every day when looking at the floors. Jim is a nice person but his skill set and abilities were overstated and the project was underdelivered.
I was surprised by your HomeAdvisor review. When I left the job you said you were very happy with the floor and the fireplace. As to the uneven tile. We previously discussed that because the tile you picked is 6? by 36? wood plank tile, compounded by the fact that it is a sharp edge instead of the rounded edge and that you wanted a tight joint, the warpage is going to be a lot more noticeable. The reason it is recommended to use a wider joint with plank-type tile is to give you ramping which helps hide the imperfections in the tile and softens the edges. I came back to see what you claimed were imperfections. You had informed me that you wished a random pattern. When you have a random pattern, it is unavoidable not to have some step patterns. When you changed from carpet to wood tile the transition between the floating wood floor and the solid tile is not as forgiving. To mitigate this movement, I put caulking between the two surfaces, but it will not eliminate the total movement of the floating wood floor. While it is true, that during the course of doing your job I did have a change in helpers. Nevertheless, I pre-screen all of my workers for their skills and abilities and never leave them on their own to work on items beyond the scope. As with the floor, I also came back and made changes to the fireplace in compliance with your request and the grout used was from the same bag as the original grouting. After all the adjustments were made you and your wife both made your satisfaction with the job well known to me. so it is with great surprise that you would write such a critical review. It is always my intent to do a very professional job.
Jim Did and excellent job!! I am going to have him do my kitchen.
When was the last time you could unconditionally recommend someone? I am happy to say Jim of Jim's Tile surpassed my expectations in terms of craftsmanship, responsiveness, value and going well beyond what was required.
Very professional, always on time, does great work and always cleaned up when he left for the day.
If you are searching for a contractor that will perform quality work at a fair price then Jim Guard of Jimâ s Tile is the one for you. I originally found Jim on this site several years ago. He retiled a fireplace surround for me. He was timely to the job site, completed the work in the time frame that he promised and his attention to detail and workmanship were extraordinary. I was so pleased with his work that I kept his card (and sadly, I donâ t keep many). When I recently decided to convert 3 bathtubs to showers Jim was my first call. Once again he offered a fair price, his quote spelled out very thing out clearly and most importantly he started and finished each of the bathrooms in the exact time frame that he promised. Iâ ve completed many projects over the years and have found very few contractors that actually follow through with what they promise. Jim has earned my business and I would recommend him to anyone looking for any sort of tiling services.
Jim gave me a very reasonable bid for my kitchen back splash, he gave me some professional recommendations regarding the project, and even helped me select some of the products that I would need to complete the job. He did a fabulous job; our kitchen is gorgeous. I highly recommend Jim's TIle.
If you are looking for great quality at a fair price, definitely call Jim's Tile. Jim is an extremely talented tile installer who far exceeded our expectations with recent tile/stone installation in our bathroom. He is dependable and kept us informed as to what to expect at each step of the process. We intend to use Jim for all future tile projects and would recommend him to anyone looking for high-level professional tile workmanship in their home.
Jim worked very hard to make sure that I was pleased with his work which of course I was he was reliable and propped I would definitely hire him again
Jim gave me a fair price and helped me with picking out and ordering the right amount of tile. He was always very helpful and did a great job. I would definitely use him again.
