Our service program is design and directed by a NJ Licensed Tree Expert and a certified pesticide applicator with 30 years of experience. Our lawn and plant healthcare program can help you to improve the health and appearance of your valuable trees, shrubs and lawn. Our team installs and repairs paver and stone walkways, patios and steps. Our organic tick treatments help you to protect your family and pets.

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because We are local, insured, and committed to meeting all your property needs. David McIlwain has been in New Jersey for over 40 years, and serves clients from Far Hills to Short Hills. As a long-time professional and homeowner, he is able to understand and cater to your needs David McIlwain has been an avid outdoorsman for much of his life, despite having worked in New York City for over 20 years. In 2012, when Hurricane Sandy struck the area, David's family home was among one of the worst hit in the area. His family lost over 60 large and mature trees. David decided to focus his efforts on removing the trees and helping neighbors clean up from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. After removing over 100 trees and their very large stumps, David and his crew re-planted lawns, trees and shrubs and worked with clients to design and install gardens around their homes. Helping friends and neighbors recover from Sandy led to the creation of Harmony Tree .

Trim or Remove Trees and Shrubs

Overall rating 5...not 4.5! (Not sure why I was unable to rate above 4.5 on this site). They did such a great job on our first tree.....we asked them to schedule a trim on a second tree and they were able to provide service while they were here. So pleased with their work. Highly recommend. The world would be a better place if more businesses provided the quality of work that they do at affordable prices. Thank you to the three fine young professionals from Harmony Tree service!

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
