Carney & Son 72 Degrees is a local, family owned company that has been serving the Lowcountry for 39 years. We are proud distributors of Rheem Heating and Cooling Products and are your HVAC unit replacement specialists. We perform service and repair for all HVAC unit brands. We are a mostly residential business but do perform light commercial work. There is nothing more important than the safety and satisfaction of our customers. All of our technicians carry the Technician Seal of Safety that ensures that they are professionally trained, background checked, and drug tested. We obtained the Technician Seal of Safety to ensure that you, your family and your home are in good hands with us! We do financing call us for info!

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because At Carney & Son 72 Degrees, we are an HVAC company that is locally owned, family operated and has been our family for over 39 years. We help Charleston residents and property owners address their heating and air conditioning challenges. Established in 1984 by James W. Carney and his son Curtis Carney, we started out serving the local communities around James Island and Folly Beach. After high praise and word-of-mouth reviews made their way around the community, Carney & Son 72 Degrees now serves the greater Charleston area..

Bryce went above and beyond. It was pouring down rain, and he came out with a great attitude and fixed my thermostat issue expeditiously. He identified other issues so that I may need to handle down the line, but there was no pressure to get them fixed immediately. Great experience, and Bryce gets 10 stars.

A raccoon entered my home's crawlspace and ripped the HVAC ductwork to shreds. Carney and Son did a fantastic job installing new insulated metal ductwork throughout the crawlspace. They were able to reinforce where the ductwork attaches to the HVAC unit to prohibit this from happening again. I was very pleased with the high-quality work that they did and would recommend them to anyone.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
