"We called inquiring about a new deck with handicapped ramp capabilities. Steve came over, assessed our situation and proposed a solution. He was given the challenge, and worked within our budget to complete a very sturdy deck with a h/c ramp for future needs. After we saw his attention to detail we contracted two more projects, railings on the front steps and a stair-lift for our interior. I am a very particular customer, very exacting and I pay attention to all aspects of the project, and let the project manager know if there is a concern about the project. The professional craftsmen that worked on our projects were absolutely outstanding. It was as if they were building our projects for family."

Plumbing
"Sam from SI Plumbing was amazing. He quickly fixed a clogged sink in my home and provided fast, professional plumbing service. Later that same day, I had an additional drain issue in another bathroom, and Sam came back out after 5 PM to take care of it — true same‑day service, which is hard to find. Sam was professional, efficient, and knowledgeable, and he took the time to explain what caused the clog and shared helpful tips on how to prevent future drain problems. It’s clear he takes pride in his work and genuinely cares about his customers. If you’re looking for a reliable local plumber who offers quick response times, drain cleaning, and honest service, I highly recommend SI Plumbing. They’ve earned a spot on my go‑to list for future plumbing needs 100%."

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
