"Chris removed dry rot from eaves on barn roof and replaced the area with new wood, replaced fence in our pasture which had been crushed by downed trees, cleaned out gutters and downspouts, put down mulch on our gardens replaced a faucet in an old sink in our old house. Our house is an historic home and he enjoys working on it. He is a very conscientious pleasant worker. We feel like we have known Chris for years although it has been only a couple. He is so knowledgeable. May even look at my husbandâ s very old Jaq which has not been run for quite awhile. As you can read he is a man of many talents."

"Greg was such a professional. He was one of the few contractors who asked any questions, which I liked. He was very responsive when I had some questions. I was a little concerned when his bid was the lowest (because I kept thinking you get what you pay for). I took and chance, and I could not be happier with the results. I had a new roof, soffits, facia, and downspouts. It looks fantastic. I highly recommend Upright Builders, LLC. I will sure use them again!"

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
