"I have used this guy for over 3 years (long before he was listed here!) he is one of the best. High quality service, hard working, very helpful and most of all, actually one of the most pleasant guys Iâ ve met. Most contractors have a very â mehâ attitude about everything, this guy will make you fences and your day better! Heâ s been in this line of work for atleast 3 years, but his end product seems like heâ s got a lifetime of experience. I would HIGHLY recommend using this company!"

Few things create security and privacy for your home while enhancing your outdoor landscaping like a wood fence. It's no surprise that it's one of the more common home improvement requests we receive. Plus, in areas like The Woodlands or Kingwood, where trees dominate the landscape, a wood fence makes perfect sense to subtly blend in with the surroundings.
Installing a Wood Fence
Just because you know how to build a fence doesn't mean you know how to install a fence in Houston. High winds and shifting topsoil require higher standards, deeper and closer set fence posts, and thicker, sturdier materials all around. A well-built, quality wood fence will last you many years, but wood fences, beautiful as they can be, aren't the most durable fencing material to begin with. Lower quality wood can begin to warp in just a year or two. Improper installation can lead to leaning, breaking, falling, or similar structural failure. Unless you know what you're doing and have the knowledge specific to building a wood fence in Houston, leave your fencing project to the professionals.
Maintaining a Wood Fence
Maintaining a wood fence requires all due diligence. It may need to be resealed and waterproofed a couple times over the course of its lifetime. Note any developing imperfections such as splintering or bowing. You may need to have individual panels replaced if this happens. Again, don't shoot yourself in the foot before you even get started by choosing an inferior wood for fencing material. A high-performing wood such as cedar is recommended. We've had one Houston homeowner note that even his treated pine fence was beginning to warp.
Costs
You might think, with the harsh conditions that Houston wood fences face, that they would also be more expensive. In fact, if anything, the opposite is true. While the national average for a wood fence installation is about $3,000, in Houston we see numbers that are closer to $2,000. Part of this may be accounted for by a reluctance to build large sprawling fences made from wood, but more likely it has to do with a better lumber supply. In any case, just because you live in Houston, your wood fence shouldn't cost an arm and a leg to build.
Project Length
The one thing that may cause a setback for your Houston wood fence installation is the project length. While it still shouldn't take more than a day or two to build, weather may cause scheduling difficulties. Naturally, you don't want a wood fence built while it's raining. Plus, if at all possible, you should try to be present during the construction of the fence. Most of the complaints we hear from homeowners have to do with simple miscommunication about what the homeowner wanted. Be sure, too, that the contractor knows where your property line is. You'll probably want to talk to your neighbors and inform them about your wood fence. Play your cards right, and there's a good chance you can even get your neighbors to pitch in for the cost of the fence that borders their property.
