"Leo was great to work with. He installed cabinets and a countertop in our newly remodeled kitchen. Leo also did some framing and Sheet rock work. I originally was working with Home Depot and Iâ m glad I got a second bid/opinion. The cabinets that were installed are a much better quality than the Home Depot mid grade cabinets. I would recommend Leo to family and friends, that say a lot about the job he did."

"Mike and his whole team, especially Jaime, were amazing to work with! We have had some bad experiences with contractors so were dreading dealing with our bathroom remodel. We could not have been more pleasantly surprised! Mike and his team are communicative, fair, kind - and on time! We will definitely use Big Oak again for other projects!"

"My kitchen remodel included removing a wall, moving a wall as well as all the old electrical, HVAC, pipes this in a 75 year old home. The end product amazes everyone who sees it and me every day! Jordan, Tyler and their crew were the utmost in professional. They are talented, hard working, conscientious and patient and wanted to make sure everything was done exactly how I wanted it. This company is the real deal. They will be only ones I call for my next project!"

"When no one else would take on our extensive project, Aim construction rose the the occasion. The project consisted of refiguring rooms, all new electrical, all new plumbing, insulating exterior walls, and a new support beam in the basement. We are thrilled with the results and canâ t believe we waited as long as we did to get it done."

    Cabinet Installation, Remodeling

"We just finished a complete remodel in our kitchen and a bathroom that was done by South Valley Building Company (SVBC) and weâ d like to share why we highly recommend them to you. We could fill up the page and more about what we like about Josh and Samantha Perry and their team, but here it is in a flash. This recommendation is totally unsolicited by them. SVBC was highly recommended to us by our cabinet vendor. We called Josh Perry, owner of the company, and he responded immediately, came to our house to review the project, and we knew he was the guy for us. He was kind and friendly and very interested in helping us. Best choice ever. Hereâ s why: â ¢ From the beginning Josh was straightforward-- transparency is a major goal. He gave us a schedule/calendar he planned to follow throughout the project and he held to it. He prepared a very authentic comprehensive budget that we were able to live with. â ¢ Before the project began, Josh and his team encapsulated the work area with plastic sheeting--ceiling to floor, covered the entry floor, hall way, and every place his men would be walking with heavy paper that lasted throughout the project. It kept our house free from dust and dirt as much as possible. â ¢ We soon learned that Josh and his team are extremely knowledgeable and skilled, as demonstrated by exactly fitting cabinets and cupboards, doors and drawers, to carefully cutting and installing tricky crown-molding corners and transitions, to cabinet trim, floor repair, and even HVAC venting issues. Our finished project is picture perfect. We couldnâ t be happier. â ¢ Josh has what we call an â artistic eyeâ â he has a knack for seeing things that arenâ t visually attractive or beautiful and gives suggestions to enhance the project. He holds his sub-contractors to his very high standard. He isnâ t afraid to correct them, and even insist that something be re-done if it doesnâ t look right. Yet he is kind. â ¢ His wife, Samantha, is an amazing partner. She provides up-to-date project reports, researches specialty resources and does a lot of behind-the-scenes work. She regularly provided us with â budgeted vs. actualâ comparison reports. We knew where we stood throughout the project. Because of their careful planning and execution, we were delighted upon completion to be under budget. Bottom line: We could not be more satisfied with how this project was executed and completed. We highly recommend South Valley Building Company if you want your remodel/building project to be great."

"Our experience with Forge Contracting was marked by high integrity, good quality, and high value work. I wanted to acknowledge the satisfaction on our remodel. I must give a 100% satisfied mark as you not only finished the job early and under budget, but with great sub-contractors and excellent workmanship. The job was done very efficiently and timely. I would recommend Forge Contracting to anyone and will welcome any calls or references."

Frequently asked questions

  • It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
  • You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
  • It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.

Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:

  • Have you completed a job like this before?
  • Do you have a list of references I can contact?
  • When are you able to start the job?

In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.

  • How many years of experience do you have?
  • What’s your permanent business address?
  • Are you licensed to work in my area?
  • When did you earn your business license?
  • How do you handle warranty service complaints?
  • Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?

Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
