"Job included drywall repair, exterior trim replacement, power wash and paint entire exterior. Jorge came out promptly and gave me a very reasonable quote. He even suggested an alternative repair that saved a lot of money when I showed him what I didn't like about the junk siding on the back of our house and explained that I wanted it fixed but didn't have a lot of money to throw at it. As requested, he provided an itemized quote for each area of work (drywall, trim replacement, power wash, and painting). He and his crew were able to start the job soon after I accepted the quote. Jorge did NOT ask for money up front as many small contractors do. I especially appreciate this since I have been "burned" in the past by advancing money to people who don't complete the job and money discussions are just always so awkward. I don't want to convey that I don't trust someone that I've just hired, but I also don't want to pay them and have them disappear without completing the job. After working with Jorge, I know this would not be a problem at all, but I still very much appreciate the trust he put in me that I would honor my agreement to pay him. They showed up when they said they would, worked quickly and efficiently and were respectful of both the inside and outside of our home by covering items they were working near and hauling off the construction related debris. They were also very kind to my two Papillons, one of which barked every time they opened the door (8 pounds of pure watch dog!) They completed the job in just two days which totally amazed me and I was very satisfied with the quality of their work. Jorge is very nice and easy to work with and above all, he is fair. He honored his quote and did not throw a lot of "extras" at me like some contractors do. He replaced 2 extra trim pieces and added a nominal charge for it. Some contractors, once they are on the job and know you are at their mercy, charge more for additional work than they would have charged in an original quote, not so with Jorge. I am very pleased with Jorge and his crew at JH Drywall and highly recommend them. I also highly recommend HomeAdvisor as I have had very good experiences with all the companies they have recommended. Hire JH Drywall, I'm glad that I did!"

"Robert and his Crew where great. They work quickly and made sure that we were happy with each progression of the work. He was honest and insistent how to pay. He didn't ask for all of it up front which a lot of so call contractors wanted. We are so satisfied with his honesty and work we are hiring for future projects. He is a busy contractor so it may take awhile but it is so much worth it.!!"

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
