"I would DEFINITELY hire this company again. Chris was the only one to contact me. He called the same day as my request. He came to look at the job very quickly and at the scheduled time. He even called in advance to verify the date/time. He came back to do the job as promised. The work was outstanding. Also, he knew his limits. For one of my tasks he recommended a plumber b/c he was not comfortable doing the work. He is a very pleasant, nice and respectful person. A+"

"The custom job was done according to our needs and within our price range. A discount was given us as a Combat Veteran. Whenever we take a shower or simply relax, we appear to be skinnier and more attractive because of the tiles selected and the mirror we selected. The work was professional and when we asked for some enhancements, those requests were met. Each day there was a clean-up which removed much of the stress during the remodeling. The entire team working on the project from demolition to final touch ups was great. A special recognition goes to Justin for his creativity and skilled works. By the way, we liked their work and had a new roof done too. Call Amy and let her know, that Doc and Irene sent you for a good deal."

"My wife and I were initially very pleased with the work they did rebuilding our deck, so we decided to hire them to remodel our kitchen. They went above and beyond to ensure that my wife and I were pleased with our new kitchen. We have recommended them to our friends and they were also very pleased with their work. Efrain, the owner, is very pleasant and a joy to work with. All of the workers he had doing work were also pleasant and very respectful. My wife and I highly recommend ANB Services."

Frequently asked questions

  • It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
  • You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
  • It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.

HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.

You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.

Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:

  • Have you completed a job like this before?
  • Do you have a list of references I can contact?
  • When are you able to start the job?

In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.

  • How many years of experience do you have?
  • What’s your permanent business address?
  • Are you licensed to work in my area?
  • When did you earn your business license?
  • How do you handle warranty service complaints?
  • Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?

Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.

Comment: We currently live in a three-story, twin home built in the 1920s. We have a back room off the kitchen that has nothing built above it and would like to build a 1-2 story addition on top of it. In doing so, we hope to expand our current bedroom, second floor full bathroom and walk-in closet on the second floor. We would also like to install a full bathroom on our third floor. Last, we are curious to price out blow-in insulation for the home as it is not well insulated.
