"We have a side yard on a slope, and we needed a large deck and also a fence to keep our dog in, with two gates. They did a great job, were very communicative, were responsive when I made a small alteration to the plan and the deck they built is solid and strong with a pretty railing. We were super happy with this company. After our project we added on ordering and planting of three trees. Again, we were really happy with them. We will continue to use this company."

Nothing wrong with it basically but I can’t do it alone anymore. I hired a guy to stain it and now it needs more TLC bc the stain was not oil-based. It’s peeled off and now is not protected from the Oregon coast weather! I stained it myself several years ago. I didn’t think I would ever get done. I thought never again! I’ve been thinking about replacing the top and railing with a middle-priced composite decking material but need prices and suggestions on the different kinds, etc. I believe all the support system is in good condition and won’t need replacing. The deck is around 12 years old, spaced like your suggestion…w/16 penny nail! I’m cleaning the gunk in between many times as a rule. husband was a General contractor and he was “no short-cuts” kinda guy. He died a # of yrs ago. I would like to ask when contractors do “replacement” deck projects, do they normally take the old boards? I ask bc my deck boards are still good say, for another deck for others or low-income folks. Just curious. I would chose to keep them if that’s the case.
