  Comment: House was built in 1962, and is kind of crazy. Crawlspace entrance is below ground level and vapor barrier is mostly deteriorated. We purchased the home in December of 2022 with hopes of slowly updating, but the crawlspace flooded and fried the furnace. We need a way to protect the new furnace we are going to have installed and help prevent extra moisture from accumulating under the house as well.

  Comment: We have a sump pump in the crawl space which is connected to a French drain to remove water in the crawl space. It seams to not be working properly or not working at all. We would also like to have a battery backup connected to the sump pump in case of a power outage. The crawl space will flood during heavy rain storms without the sump pump. It is important to have a dry crawl space because the HVAC unit is in the crawl space.

  Comment: We have a very odd and frustrating problem in our crawlspace, where our furnace is located. Since the condensate pump for the furnace has to sit a regulation distance below the unit, it is carved a foot or so into the dirt right at the foot of the furnace. As is typical, it signals the furnace to stop operating if water in the tank crosses a shut-off threshold. Our problem is that when it rains heavily and the ground around our property swells with water, groundwater seeps through the dirt floor of the crawlspace into the carved-out pit containing our condensate pump. When that water manages to climb high enough up the pump's exterior, a built-in safety mechanism breaks the GFI powering the pump, which turns off the pump, which means the furnace eventually stops as well once water in the pump tank crosses the shut-off threshold. In order to restore our HVAC, I have to go under the house with a bucket and cup and bail water out of the pit. If the pump was submerged, I also have to allow it time to try before re-closing the GFI and thus can't just turn the pump back on. That means using a syringe to suck water continually out of the condensate pump tank so that it stays below the shut-off point, so that the furnace can run. This vulnerability has been a thorn in our side for two years now, and the company who installed our furnace claims they cannot do anything to help us given the regulation requiring that condensate pumps sit a certain distance below the furnace. They did, however, recommend we seek help from a crawlspace company on a custom solution. In short, they suggested we replace our condensate pump and earthen pit with a sump pump pit, for easy and automatic evacuation of any water in the area, whether condensation from the furnace or groundwater during heavy rain. Whether this or some other solution, I am dying to put this nagging problem behind us and stop worrying that we'll lose climate control when it rains hard.
