"It was a pleasure to work with Joe. He was on time, did not try to sell me services that I did not need and I appreciate how well he listened to my description of the problem. He resolved the problem, and then thoroughly cleaned the work area upon completion. I paid him exactly what he quoted. I recommend Joe, and I will use him again.."

"We wanted part of a kitchen cabinet modified to make room for a bigger refrigerator. We did not want to replace all the cabinets in the kitchen because we love them. Other contractors told us that this project wasn't worth their time as it was too small. Mark took the job and made a custom cabinet and matched it to our other existing cabinets. In addition, he worked with us when we were in a bind to find someone to lift the counter in order for the cabinet to be installed (the counter we were having replaced would not be in until Mark was done and we still needed a counter for Thanksgiving). Mark really saved the day. I would definitely recommend Wood and Feather Woodworking. His prices are right on par with our budget and Mark was absolutely wonderful to work with."

Custom Kitchens & Bathrooms
"We used the Pittsburgh branch, worked with Jeff Lape. Jeff and his crew did excellent work, communicated any issues as they found them, and accommodated all of our change requests. I have pretty high standards which is why I am always anxious when I hire a new contractor. Jeff and Jay exceeded all my expectations and they are first on my list for any future projects. The craftsmanship was excellent and the price was fair."

Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
