"This was my first experience with Home Advisors. However, will not be my last. We are in the process of getting our current home prepared to go on the real-estate market and needed the services of a "Professional" Painter / Drywall company. After reviewing the various companies available to me we settled on Quality Drywall & Painting. Was able to engage owner Steve Scott and arrange for him to make a site visit in order to provide me with an accurate estimate for our job. He promptly met with my wife and I on a Saturday morning as we have been out of town finishing up the construction of our retirement home in Northeast Georgia. Our job was rather extensive regarding a â  Completeâ  interior painting of ceilings walls trim and molding. The job also was inclusive of various drywall repairs and cabinet painting in the kitchen, (2) bathrooms and laundry room. In addition, there was a large outdoor deck that was incorrectly painted (By another contractor) that had to be stripped and receive a color change. Lastly there was a detached shop that required walls, molding and epoxy flooring. I would be remiss not to state that we were under a very tight time line in which get our current Southwest Georgia home prepared for sale. The (3) man crew worked between 12 and 16 hours per day in order to assist us with our objectives. As previously stated, these guys we pouring their best into our job. After observing the integrity and attention to detail provided be these men my wife and I decided to allow the crew to stay at our home during the project. Our thoughts were that this would conserve on travel time, increase productivity and reduce their operational costs as they were traveling upwards of (3) hours a day during the first (2) days. Therefore, the last (5) days the guys took us up on our offer. Our home received all of the paint color lighting and ceiling fan upgrades that our realtor recommended. So as to be clear, the crew changed nearly every ceiling fan and light fixture in the entire house. As we are now at the end of our project the men have exceeded our expectations while helping us to remain on track with our hard-scheduled deadline. While finishing up the final punch list items (Final Day 7) our realtors stopped in to check on the progress to goal. One of the ladies asked if I had already had the final home clean-out performed. I quickly replied that it was scheduled for tomorrow morning. Needless to say, she was surprised. Just another example of the attention to detail Quality Drywall & Painting provides their customers! Our realtors were amazed with the transformation as well as quality of craftsmanship that had taken place in our home. While departing, the elder realtor stated, â  this house will be sold in a week!â  My response was, â  I sure hope so!â  Couldnâ  t have met these goals without the good folks at Quality Drywall & Painting. If you are looking for a Painting and Drywall contractor that can handle most any job while exceeding your expectations, then I strongly suggest you give Steve Scott at Quality Drywall and Painting a call. You won't be disappointed. Sincerely, Michael D. Walent SR."

"First, let me start off by saying that A.J. has the most positive attitude of any HomeAdvisor contractor that I've chartered thus far. No matter what the task, he was game to take care of it; so much so that when he finished he gave me an honest tasks price and I gave him an extra tip for his troubles (he came by on a Saturday evening, in between work assignments and stayed until the work contracted was complete). He unfortunately put a small dent on the dryer top when shifting his position to fix the Laundry Room ceiling (yes, I saw that A.J.), but it was nothing that couldn't be banged out when he finished. Otherwise great workmanship and I would highly recommend him for any ceiling or paint handyman projects anyone may have in mind."

"I gave Tomas a list of 12 items that included building a replacement gate for a privacy fence, replacing a section of a chain link fence, replacing a kitchen light fixture, repairing the grout and caulking a bathroom and eliminating the buckling on a laminate floor. Everything was completed within two days and I was very satisfied with the results. I would highly recommend him."

"Luis, of Sky Blue Painting, got back to me within an hour of my request for a painter on Angieâ s List. He and his brother removed a popcorn ceiling, spackled & sanded the ceiling and walls, and then painted the ceiling and walls. They also patched up a big hole in the dry wall that a plumber had made. After they fixed it, I couldnâ t tell that there was ever a hole there. They did an outstanding job. Thereâ s not one flaw. They also painted the bedroom doors and front door. Again, they did a perfect job. Luis and his brother were always polite and kept me informed of the progress they were making as well as what they planned to do the next day. They always arrived when they said they would and left at 5:00 pm. They also cleaned up and left the work area extremely neat and tidy. I would give them 10 stars if I could."

"Burtons crew took a lot of time with the edges around my cabinets. His guys washed down the doors and all of the molding before painting (as I had requested and paid extra) so that cabinets, trim, & walls were very clean from exposure to grease before the paintwork. There was no overspray and he put on two coats just like I requested! I was so pleased with the outcome! It was so nice to get a fresh kitchen makeover for a Mom of 3 grown boys! Thanks, Burton and everyone at Quality Color Painting! I am a happy customer for sure! - Elizabeth Truesdel Perry, GA"

Frequently asked questions

Painters usually price a job by the square feet of the project. Sometimes they’ll include flat fees for fixed expenses, like overhead and permits.

We make finding a painter easy. Simple use our directory to find a painter. Here you can browse local pros, check their reviews and do your first screening without ever having to call. We’ve also prescreened all the pros for you, to give you peace of mind.

Interior painting makes for a doable DIY project. You can save some money and get a real sense of accomplishment by doing this yourself. And, with the right prep work – covering, taping and scraping – it’s fairly forgiving. But it takes a lot of time to move furniture, tape trim, prep the surface and cover your floor, let alone apply the actual paint. Instead, save yourself the time and hassle and find a local interior painter.

Leave exterior painting to the pros. Not only do you need to worry about the type and quality of the paint, you’ll also likely need a ladder and considerably more prep work. You’ll likely need additional equipment like ladders, scaffolding and possibly a paint sprayer. It’s almost cheaper to just hire a pro. Talk to a local exterior house painter about your project.

  1. Do your research. Understand what to expect and what to look for in a pro. Look at paint types, prices and costs.
    1. Interior home painting costs $1,000-$2,800
    2. Exterior painting costs $1,700-$4,100
    3. Painting a ceiling costs $150-$350
    4. Painting cabinets costs $350-$1,200
    5. Trim painting costs $500-$1,500
    6. Calculate paint coverage
  2. Call pros for site inspections and estimates. Always get three to five estimates.
  3. Check references, compare quotes, look at past work. After you have estimates in hand, do one final pass to compare the contractors.
  4. Sign a contract with the pro of your choice. You might need to make a down payment, usually 25% to 50% of the total project cost to cover material costs, but not all pros require this. Don’t pay for the entire project upfront.

  • A complete inspection. Each pro takes a walk around your home to evaluate the condition of your current paint, the size of the job and any obstacles for accessing the site. They do this to see how much prep work they’ll need and estimate how long the job will take. The more thorough the inspection, the more accurate the quote.
  • Color consultation. Expect each contractor to have varying color options and suggestions. However, you have the final say.
  • Listen to the pro – they’re experts after all – but don’t get pushed into a color combination or finish type that you don’t want. Understand the different exterior paints or interior paint choices before your pro arrives.
  • A rough estimate or complete quote. Finishing contractors vary here. Usually, they can quote straightforward projects on the spot. But some may need to take it back to their shop to run numbers and give you a detailed estimate with costs broken out. Neither method is better than the other, but just make sure to get multiple quotes.

  1. How long have you been in business? A long business history helps you avoid shoddy companies. It’s hard for a service business to stay in business if they don’t do good work.
  2. Are you licensed and insured? Not all states require a license for painting homes, but many do. Always use one that’s insured.
  3. Do you belong to any professional organizations? You’ll find many online, like the Painting Contractors Association or the Finishing Contractors Association?
  4. Do you have other work I can look at? Always check a portfolio or, in the case of painters, it’s better to look at work they did a few years ago to see how well it’s held up.
  5. How long will the job take? Get a rough estimate but get it in writing.
  6. How many people are in your crew? This is especially important if you work remotely. More people generally means more noise, but they’ll be done faster.
  7. Will I be in the way if I’m home during the painting? You usually won’t be in the way, but this question helps you understand what to expect while they’re working. They’ll need to lay down coverings and do a lot of prep work.
  8. Do you guarantee your work? Never hire a painter who doesn’t guarantee their work. This often means they’ll rush the prep work, since peeling never happens right away.
  9. What type of paint do you use, and how long is it rated to last? Different rooms need different paint and the exterior needs exterior paint. It comes in different grades with different guaranteed lifetimes.
  10. Can you supply a written estimate and contract? Never use a painter who isn’t willing to put his work in writing.
