Comment: We have what we believe to be a French drain in our back yard. It is about 12 inches underground and is completely buried. It is black corrugated flexible pipe that connects to the 4 inch PVC drain pipe that runs about 70 feet from the downspout on the pool deck, under the pool deck, under the back room of the house, under the gravel sidewalk and into the back yard. The PVC pipe is in good condition. We had it jetted and a camera confirmed there are no clogs or breaks for its entire length. The flex drain has several breaks caused by tree roots. We found the drain because of one of the breaks in the line. There is a large hole in the yard where it was dug up to get to the leak. This is a huge problem as our dogs use this fenced yard daily. The bigger problem is it does not drain properly, floods the yard, and causes back flow into the PVC pipe, sometimes as far as the downspout! It is rainy/hurricane season. These big thunderstorms push so much water through the drain pipe so fast, we see come back up around the downspout onto the pool deck. The caulking around the downspout was blown out. We are afraid to re-caulk until the drain is fixed. The drain is near a huge oak tree with many roots and the slope of the yard is slight. We need a new drain in the yard! ASAP.
