We think of the following procedure, however welcoming better solutions ---a manual procedure for raising the stone. One person sits behind the stone and tilts it back against his knees. A second person stands on the other side and shovels out as much as possible loose soil from beneath the stone, perhaps tamps down what is left, covers the area generously with “big chunk gravel,” and pours a slurry of “Qickset mortar over it. The two persons reverse positions and repeat: tilt the cross backwards from the opposite side, shovel out soft soil, cover with big chunk gravel, and cover with mortar slurry. Continue adding big chunk gravel and mortar front and back until the stone is lifted almost to the edge of the ground. • Note the original positions of the four round cement corner supports of the fence, two now broken and out of alignment. When the work is finished, obtain new supports. She recommended larger square CMUs (Cement Masonry Units). Wash/clean the fence; the damage from rust is probably too minor for a commercial welder to repair (gate out of alignment being lower than top of fence; break at the bottom of the gate; also, several vertical bars broken at the bottom).
