"I had a complicated trenching job that no one wanted to touch. Ron's guys (Tylor & TJ) were GREAT! One of the problems was that even the water association had no idea where the water line was. They did some digging in the "obvious" spots but it revealed nothing (to everyone's surprise). They wasted no time, they just changed strategies, and a little while later the water line was located. They took a lot of initiative (in laying lines, back-trenching etc) and in the long run, saved me a lot of time, headaches and money. I've dealt with a lot of contractors on this building project and these guys were the BEST. I really couldn't be happier with the work they did and how they solved all the problems. They exceeded my expectations by miles. I'd hire them back in a second for future work! Ron knows the contracting business and he knows a lot of people in the contracting business, and I'd trust him to refer me to the right person for a particular job if he or his guys didn't do that kind of work. He's a trustworthy guy who clearly hires excellent people."

"Devon Reed: When we talked, he listened. He didn't interrupt and he understood what I was trying to convey. What he thought I needed done was smaller than his company does and I needed a plumber. I had had a couple fails in that area so he agreed to come out and look. He and George cleared the area out, dug a hole to get to my pipe on the outside of the house. We perform this screening when a business applies to join our network and, if the business is accepted, whenever concerns are brought to our attention. Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the county in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Business owners or principals with felony arrests that carry a pending decision or who are convicted of felonies in the past 7 years ago will not be admitted to the network. Businesses or owners convicted misdemeanors or felonies, or who have dismissed charges or arrests on their records involving rape/incest, sex offenses, or lewd and lascivious behavior at any point in time will not be admitted to our network.

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened if a concern is reported to HomeAdvisor.

Licensing

We require all pros to attest that they carry the appropriate local and state licensing to practice their trade. Please note that HomeAdvisor does not confirm licensing. Do your own research using online ratings, reviews and through phone interviews before hiring a company.

State Business Filings

If a business states that it's registered as a corporation or limited liability company, we confirm that the company is in good standing in the state in which they operate.

Ratings
