Third-party verification options to ensure that projected savings are met. Low Cost, High Impact Our goal is to significantly reduce the energy your house wastes and put a little extra money in your pocket at the same time. Thats why we are targeting only the solutions that provide the biggest return on your investment. The other guys&they might do it all, but doing it all isnt necessarily cost effective. Your family's comfort is our highest priority.

How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because Sustainergy Cooperative is a worker-owned energy savings company that helps homeowners reduce energy costs and increase comfort. Because of this We are very focused on quality of work and customer satisfaction. When you're speaking to someone from the company you are speaking with an owner and therefore can rest assured that you will be taken care of . We provide low cost, high impact home upgrades engineered to quickly save homeowners more in heating and cooling expenses than the upgrade cost. We offer innovative financing when needed. We also do follow calls to make certain that homeowners come out ahead and enjoy the savings and comfort originally promised. .

We are worker Owned. Because of this we are extremely invested in the success and continued education and growth of employees and the business.

We are part of a larger group of coops, the Green Umbrella, which our founder is co-chair of the Energy Team and is also Vice President of the CUCI (Cincinnati Union Coop Initiative).

Money from our profits help to start and grow other start-up coops. We try to foster growth in the community by creating local job opportunities

Their estimate was reasonable for insulating our attic and walls. They came on time, worked efficiently, and finished in less time than they estimated. They provided clear helpful information on the value of insulating which matched my research. They cleaned up thoroughly after they finished. We could not be more pleased with the job they did. Now we look forward to lower energy costs.

Sustainergy Cooperative added insulation and sealed some air leaks in the attic and basement of my 1951 ranch home on Cincinnati's west side. The company is worker-owned, and it shows. They dealt with me fairly and honestly, and they were all nice guys. They gave me a written estimate and followed up appropriately but did not pressure me. Scheduling the work was easy. They confirmed right away by email and sent a reminder the day before. The guys who did the work were respectful and professional. They cleaned up after themselves and took time to answer my questions. They helpfully pointed out a leak in the roof that I didn't know about. Highly recommend.

Insulate an Attic

Having moved into a 1929 fixer-upper, I've had my share of experiences with contractors. Spray foam is much better at sound absorption and consistency in thickness for insulating purposes and has come a long way over the years. These guys were on time and did great work . Fair and honest in their pricing as well.

We perform this screening when a business applies to join our network and, if the business is accepted, whenever concerns are brought to our attention. We're committed to maintaining a network of trusted home service businesses, and those who don't meet our criteria will be rejected or promptly removed from our network.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the state in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Businesses will not be admitted to the network if their owners or principals have the following felonies in their available criminal records*:

Arson

Assault/domestic violence/battery

Child abuse

Intimidation/terrorist threats

Kidnapping/abduction

Lewd and lascivious behavior

Manslaughter/murder/homicide/vehicular homicide

Rape/incest

Robbery/carjacking

Sex offenses

Other felonies not listed above that occurred in the past seven years

Contracting without a license in the past seven years

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened biennially.

How is COVID-19 impacting the HomeAdvisor background check program?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, several government agencies and courts across the country have temporarily closed their offices. While HomeAdvisor will continue its background check program to the extent possible, these closures could prevent some background checks from being performed. Please be advised that, during this period, if we could not perform a background check, HomeAdvisor will allow the business into the network and match the business to consumers. As affected government agencies and courts begin to re-open, we will resume our program in those jurisdictions. As always, we encourage consumers to perform their own research, to the extent possible, before hiring any business.

Licensing

We verify any applicable state-level licenses, and we require every business to attest that they carry the appropriate local licensing to practice their trade. Please note that HomeAdvisor does not confirm local licensing. Do your own research using online ratings, reviews and through phone interviews before hiring a company.

Corporate Accounts

Some businesses are employees, franchisees, dealers or independent contractors ("Corporate SP's") of larger national or "Corporate Accounts". When this is the case, we may match you with the Corporate Account or with one of their Corporate businesses. The above screening process does not apply to Corporate Accounts, as HomeAdvisor does not screen Corporate Accounts or Corporate businesses.

Verify Trade License HomeAdvisor checks to see if the business carries the appropriate state-level license. Verify Insurance As a part of our screening process, we encourage professionals to carry general liability insurance. We require coverage for hundreds of services. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
