How We Got Started

I chose to work in this industry because Storm Guard of North Metro Denver is locally owned and operated by fourth generation Colorado natives, Janice Lopez and Russ Barber. As a trusted name in the insurance restoration industry, Storm Guard specializes in roofing, gutters, siding, paint, windows, and emergency tarping services. According to the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association, The Colorado Front Range is located in the heart of Hail Alley and receives the highest frequency of large hail in North America. We can count on three or four catastrophic hail storms (defined as at least $25 million in insured damage) every year. That is why we brought Storm Guard to North Metro Denver. We, and our neighbors, deserve a professional, reliable, high-quality damage restoration company that is 100% focused on serving our community..

The Storm Guard team was incredibly helpful in assisting with the hail damage repairs on my aging parents home. The attention to details by the owner Russ Barber in the process of working with the insurance company ensured that my parents did not have to deal with unexpected costs and delays. The work was completed on time and they did a great job with site cleanliness and quality workmanship.

Criminal Background Check

Who does HomeAdvisor background check?

The owner or principal of each business in HomeAdvisor's network (with the exception of Corporate Accounts) must pass a background check. Unfortunately, we cannot perform a background check on every employee of a business—the background checks are performed only on the owner or principal. As always, we recommend that you conduct your own research on the businesses you hire, including making inquiries directly with the businesses regarding their employee background check policies.

What does the background check cover?

We use a third-party vendor to conduct a criminal records search in the state in which the business owner or principal works. Our third-party vendor uses a national criminal database ("NCD") to screen service professionals. Businesses will not be admitted to the network if their owners or principals have the following felonies in their available criminal records*:

Arson

Assault/domestic violence/battery

Child abuse

Intimidation/terrorist threats

Kidnapping/abduction

Lewd and lascivious behavior

Manslaughter/murder/homicide/vehicular homicide

Rape/incest

Robbery/carjacking

Sex offenses

Other felonies not listed above that occurred in the past seven years

Contracting without a license in the past seven years

Our background check does not exclude service professionals unless the crime at issue is a felony.

*The comprehensiveness of the NCD varies by state. Please be aware that the reporting in the NCD is particularly limited in the following states: AL, CO, DE, GA, ID, IL, KS, LA, ME, MA, MI, MS, MT, NE, NV, NH, NM, SD, UT, VA, VT, and WY. After initial admission to the HomeAdvisor network, businesses are re-screened biennially.

How is COVID-19 impacting the HomeAdvisor background check program?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, several government agencies and courts across the country have temporarily closed their offices. While HomeAdvisor will continue its background check program to the extent possible, these closures could prevent some background checks from being performed. Licensing

We verify any applicable state-level licenses, and we require every business to attest that they carry the appropriate local licensing to practice their trade. Verification of State Business Filings For business types that require a Secretary of State filing, we confirm that the business is in good standing in the state in which it is located. Criminal Records Search HomeAdvisor uses 3rd party data sources to conduct a criminal search for any relevant criminal activity associated with the owner/principal of the business. Sex Offender Search We confirm that the owner/principal is not listed on the official state Sex Offender web site in the state in which the owner/principal of the company is located. Bankruptcy Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the history of the principal/owner of the business for bankruptcy filings by or against them. Legal Search for Civil Judgments We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for state level civil legal judgments entered against them. Liens Search We use 3rd party data sources to check the principal/owner of the business for liens placed against them. Identity Verification (SSN) HomeAdvisor verifies the social security number(s) of the owner/principal for identity check purposes. This check applies primarily to smaller business entities. Identity Verification (Reverse Phone Lookup) We conduct a reverse business phone lookup to identify records matching the phone number information provided by the business.
