Write a ReviewIt was a horrible experience for me. A one week kitchen project took four months. Too many broken promises to count. They were originally going to remodel the bathroom and kitchen, but the kitchen was such a disaster I did not move forward with the bathroom. I could go on for hours with details about what went wrong, but will just say using them was a mistake. Very nice people but not true to their word in any way. Settled contract amicably for which i am grateful and i do love my kitchen.
SMS Construction has been nothing short of miraculous. As anyone in Houston knows, we are in the midst of recovering from the February winter storms and associated power and water crises. We had just closed on our home, and had only been there for two nights when the disaster struck. Our home was flooded due to broken pipes, and the damages are likely to be hundreds of thousands of dollars. Amy had a team at our home the next afternoon to do an assessment. In less than three days, they cleaned everything up, stored what was salvageable, and laid out any damaged items so we would be able to accurately account for them during the insurance claim process. The essential demolition (removal of insulation, drywall, etc...) and the industrial drying fans were in place by Thursday afternoon. My house was ready for the insurance adjuster before Houston had even lifted the boil water mandate. Amy and Ahmed have consistently kept us informed and reassured. I am so grateful, and am absolutely amazed at the level of professionalism and care that they have shown during this very stressful time. I look forward to finishing up the remediation phase, and I will be hiring them for the reconstruction work! If I could give them a 10-star rating I would.
SMS did a great job with both the bathroom remodel and the under-stairs wine room build. Very collaborative to work with from planning through execution. There are opportunities to improve with scheduling to minimize down days and shorten overall project runtime. But a great outcome and customer service was outstanding.
Great job, great price, great customer service!
Good workmanship, they worked with our schedule and needs.
The counters and backsplash are done and beautiful and just what I asked them to do
Not 100% satisfied. Had some difficulty getting started then took too much time completing.
I'm hiring them again to build my wife a closet so she'll leave mine alone. Workmanship is immaculate. Very happy with results
We used them after a flood. Mr. Sohail and Chance did a great job making the transition or us much easier than we thought it would be.
Thank you Sylvia. It was a pleasure!
09.01.2020 - I will update this review once the work has actually been done. I have been delaying writing this review, in hopes that it will get better. I hired SMS Construction to build custom cabinets/desks for our office and it has been a horrible experience. This is supposed to be an exciting experience for me. I am currently working from home and about to start virtual school for my younger 3 children - I was hoping to have our office completed before September 8th - but it does not look like that will happen. And honestly - I am not sure if it will happen in the near future. So here is what happened: We met with Chancellor at the SMS Construction building and started grasping ideas out of thin air. There is no brochures or books to use to reference what we wanted for our home office. I am the type of person that needs to visualize what I wanted. That should have been the first red flag. So we decided on 16 boxes and the owner had us pay half upfront. This is before ever seeing the designer (this should have been the second red flag). The next day we met with the designer (David) and he was the only person who knew what he was doing. Initially, we had picked out cabinets that were made for bathrooms/kitchens. If it was not for David - they were going to install a bathroom/kitchen counters for our office! Seriously! So it ended up going from 16 boxes to 14 boxes and Chancellor argued that we initially started with 14 boxes and not the 16. The 16 boxes accounted for all of the wall space, but after meeting with David - we went down 2 which equals 14. Our price went up 1600 and I confronted Chancellor about it saying I feel like I am getting ripped off - mind you I used the I statement - not trying to accuse anyone, but losing 2 boxes should have allocated the cost somewhat. David said the custom boxes were slightly more. But I do not think he meant 1600 dollars more. Chancellors response to my concerns was -You can not get it for free. You have to pay for it so we can get paid. Who says that to a customer? - I was not asking for anything for free. Nothing that he said was adding up. And it all stemmed from the 16 boxes to 14 boxes ordeal. I do not recommend this place for anything outside of bathrooms/kitchens. I do not think they have enough experience to accommodate outside those areas. I am having my small bathroom renovated - and I found another company that will come to your home, do the design, and then you agree on the price. That process makes sense. Paying for something before you even know what you are buying - does not. We met with David on August 7th and now it is September 1st. David mentioned we should receive the custom cabinets 2-3 weeks. Who knows - it may be 2 to 3 years from now.
Hi Heather, I apologize for this whole event you went through with us. I'm so sorry it caused you so much grief...truly. Is there anything we can do to earn your business back? If not, perhaps I can fill in some of the questions you may have. I see that we refunded you, entirely, but I would still like to speak with you and maybe see where all the communication issues came from. I'd be happy to speak with you at any time. I will have Chance reach out to you with my phone number. - Amy
