Reviews
Write a ReviewWe hired a two man team if carpenters to rebuild our deck, time and materials basis. The carpentry was very good, although close inspection after completion identified a few mistakes. A major issue arose when I discovered they were billing me more hours than they worked, even though the carpenters had been specifically told to work 8 hours per day, which they did not do. The issue was resolved, but this caused significant stress and left a bitter taste in my mouth. Overall, its a nice well built deck. I would have given them 4 stars but for the over billing of hours worked.
Jordan Tapia and his brother Clayton who did the estimate were top notch. I can not say enough about how professional and helpful they have been throughout my porch repair. This was a small project, but they were just as responsive and attentive as if on a big job. James, who supervised the replacement of three porch posts was also very professional and efficient. They showed up with the correct materials ready to go and left the job site cleaner than they found it for sure. I will definitely be using Second Gen Carpentry and Construction for future projects.
Thank you Shelley for your kind words and thoughtful review. It brings me great pleasure to know your satisfaction was achieved and expectations were met or exceeded. Second Gen will be standing by, prepared to be of service at your convenience. Best wishes
Having completed my third deck with Second Gen, I wish I wrote this review sooner. Jordan was very professional and would take the time and effort to answer any questions I had. As a Real Estate agent, time is crucial when it comes to houses, and there aren’t that many contractors that I can trust to complete a job in a timely manner. These deck installations helped create more value to these properties which in return brings the properties more money. I will continue to use Second Gen for all my carpentry needs and would definitely recommend them!
Thank you Rami, your business is always appreciated and I?m happy to be apart of any team you?re on. I am available anytime you need and I am grateful for the opportunities to be of service to you and your clients.
This company appears professional at quote but have zero basic carpentry, design, communication and customer service skills. We were bullied by Jordan for payments â so he could make payroll.â Substandard materials were purchased for our job initially and would have been used had we not complained. And the finished project is unacceptable by most standards. We have wood cut too short in multiple places leaving significant gaps. In addition, the finish work is appalling. Poor painting, caulking, sanding. This company is incapable of installing any kind of door. Carpentry 101 not even met. In addition, should we ever need to replace screening the entire fascia and doors will need to be removed. This was not the original plan. Jordan Tapia declared our job â acceptableâ to him and refused to correct the problems without us paying additional for his mistakes. He is a crook.
Kristin, I am truly sorry that your experience has been as you described above, I will attempt to provide context for any readers who will look to these reviews for guidance. -It was a competitive estimating environment that lasted several weeks. I was told Second Gen was selected because no other contractor would simply provide an estimate for exactly what was asked for. "...but have zero basic carpentry, design, communication and customer service skills." -I disagree with this assessment, while we had a few challenges on site, we communicated through them effectively and produced satisfactory solutions, we all agreed to proceed. The design was being dictated by the homeowner, I was happy to be part of this process. We attempted to identify important areas to specify ahead of time such as; Screen Model and Size, Pedestrian Door Quantity and Locations, Paint Color, Exterior Finish details, and Post Layout. More specification was needed, avoiding the changes during the construction process would have eliminated much of the adversity that was experienced for all involved. "We were bullied by Jordan for payments â so he could make payroll" -Every job has a Payment schedule that is agreed upon during contract. Regrettably, I allowed funds to be withheld outside of contract parameters and it became necessary for me to beg for this money after services were complete and punch list was executed. Unless otherwise agreed upon, it is not my intention to finance a clients project. I am mortified at the thought that I am portrayed to be a bully, I am a compassionate person who looks to emphasize with my clients in order to provide a service that tends to the clients needs. "Substandard materials were purchased for our job initially and would have been used had we not complained" -There was superficial damage on a few pieces of wood, the integrity was not compromised. As soon as it was brought to my attention, this was corrected. Second Gen internalized the cost of replacing and preparing this wood for installation. The client's concerns were validated and requests were accommodated, Second Gen attempts to spare no expense in pursuit of achieving satisfaction. "And the finished project is unacceptable by most standards. We have wood cut too short in multiple places leaving significant gaps." -I disagree with this assessment, time can always be spent improving on anything. We reviewed the gaps in person, I explained that these were intentionally cut to have gaps so they can be removable to service the screen (as requested). I was told these gaps were bigger than expected, recognizing that a gap can always be smaller and to find a path forward, I suggested Second Gen will pay for the material if Kristin agreed to approve the labor to execute. This was declined and met with extreme hostility and disproportionate aggression. "In addition, the finish work is appalling. Poor painting, caulking, sanding. This company is incapable of installing any kind of door. Carpentry 101 not even met." -We addressed all touch ups pointed out during our walk, we are happy to return if there is more. "In addition, should we ever need to replace screening the entire fascia and doors will need to be removed." -The fascia was supposed to be removable, I don't understand how that can be an issue. The doors were supposed to be installed so they wouldn't need to be removed, this is not how they were installed. This happened because the frame was built for a door and then the door was changed. Making these decisions ahead of construction would have avoided this, Second Gen is happy to share the cost of changing this. "Jordan Tapia declared our job â acceptableâ to him and refused to correct the problems without us paying additional for his mistakes. He is a crook." -This is an unfair and dishonest characterization, I purposed reasonable solutions for issues I did not create.
The crew from Second Gen Carpentry & Construction was very professional. They arrived at the agreed upon time every morning, provided ongoing updates throughout the project and kept the work area tidy. The project was completed in a timely manner even though extra damage to the structure was found at the time of dismantling the existing deck. I am very satisfied with their work and would not hesitate to use them again
Thank you Kari, I appreciate the opportunity you provided and the trust you placed in Second Gen. We are here for anything you need, anytime.
Second Gen Carpentry & Construction was a joy to work with from beginning to end. They were on schedule, maintained a neat and orderly work area, and delivered our deck project below estimate, but exceeding our expectations. I can't find a single item to criticize. I'd use them again, and heartily recommend them for decks or other construction needs.
Thank you Michael, it was an absolute pleasure and I appreciate the opportunity. I am always available for anything you need. Best wishes
Jordan and his team at second gen carpentry built an amazing deck for my house. They were 50% cheaper than the lowest bids I found on the market, and surprisingly the quality of the deck is beyond my initial expectations. They were extremely professional throughout the process very mindful of the work space, they always cleaned up every day before they left, finished the project ahead of schedule and also passed on some savings my way. These folks are fully licensed to undertake other work as well, they were a revelation for me. Would highly recommend them
Thank you Abhi, I appreciate the opportunity to execute this project for you and I am pleased to know we exceeded your expectations. We will look forward to the next project
Contractor listened to my thoughts and wishes! Quality of work was top notch and I am starting another job with them!
Thank you Mike, we are looking forward to the next one! Update: 27SEP Second project complete. Second Gen is always here for anything you need. Thanks again Mike!
