We hired Mike to remove some old wall paper. As you know removing wall paper is not fun, its messy, very difficult and is very time consuming. That is why we called a professional. We warned Mike about the difficulty of removing this wall paper. He came by to personally look at the partially removed wall paper that my wife had removed on her own prior Mike bidding on this project. Mike claims that he did not previously see the partially removed wall paper that we did, even though we have security cameras and pictures with time and date stamps that say otherwise. . On 9-28-2018 -9-30-2018: We borrowed a steamer from a friend and attempted to remove wall paper with wall paper remover and the steamer. We removed approx 10 linear feet of wall paper over a 2 day periord. Digital pictures were taken 9-29-2018 and 9-30-2018 with date and time stamp of the partially removed all paper 10 ft section. On 10-2-2018. We contacted Home Advisor. Mike @ Rescom painting was referred to us. Mike came over in the afternoon to look at the job. He saw the 10ft area that we removed wall paper and noticed the layer of white felt behind the wall paper. As mentioned, we also have a date and time stamp on our security cameras of Mike and I looking at the partially removed wall paper. 10-3-18- Mike Provided the following bid: Remove wall covering Patch damaged walls as needed Prime Paint walls only 1/C flat $1400.00 Extra: Retexture master bedroom walls add $ 500.00 12-13-2018- Agreement @ $1400 was made to start the job on 12-14-2018 at 8:30 or 9:00 am. 12-14-2018. We had moved some of the furniture, but Mike never showed up or called. 12-15-2018- Mike called and left message that he made a scheduling mistake. I pushed the project out until further notice due to holidays and death in the family. 1-17-219-Mike followed up and I told him we are ready to move forward with the project and Mike agreed to start Saturday 1-19-2019 @ 8:30 am. 1-19-2019- Mike shows up with one worker, who begins prep work (removing outlet coves & masking off floor area. 1-20-2019: Remainder of wall paper removed. . 1-21-2019: They show up around 2:30pm and begin putting primer over the surface. Finish around 5:00. Much of the primer begins to bubble and blister, which is common. Mike approached me and provided a bill for an added fee of $630 for wall paper removal beyond what was quoted and added fees for trim & crown ($335) , texture ($550), $225 for eggshell finish. We agreed to the trim / crown fee of $335 plus the added $500 as per quote for the texture making the total job value at $2235.00 for just the master bedroom. I protested the extra charge and told him that I would allow him to leave the job as is and I would finish with the texturing and painting. He refused and wanted to finish it, so we allowed him to.
