Reviews
Write a ReviewPowell and Assoc was recommended by a contractor. Im just a homeowner with a covered patio (roof) project, small potatoes here. They quoted me $3000. I said the fee is no problem but I need a firm that will help me with design options for my project and will spend some time with my questions. I was assured they would be great at providing me multiple design options and suggestions on what would work best for my space. Nothing could be further than the truth. I provided a simple drawing a friend of ours did and they came back with a draft of the exact same thing. When I asked about other options, it was a comedy of delays, errors, rude employees, total lack of customer service. I won't include all the details but suffice it to say I regret hiring this firm.
So much to write not sure how to start. People like Powell make the construction job a hell. City is much easy to deal with. I decided to go with them despite begin 1.5X from most of the structural engineer because of reviews. I normally don't write reviews as it a lot of effort for me. This time I feel it's my duty to inform other and warn them. If I save one person from their trap it would be worth it. The project is an addition of 655 sq ft. It has a kitchen in it. Supposedly Powell and Associate called the city and it's allowed for the addition. Which created a lot of complications, I will come to that. After deposit money, for 3 weeks there is no update. I called Mr. Justin. He is like I hired my own boss. I am begging for the job to be done for me. I explained what I wanted in the plan and to close the loop we took 2 months. After telling again he was not passing the info to engineer. There were so many silly mistakes. Like no window in the bathroom and then window over the vanity. Where will the mirror go? Do I have to tell that? This was done 6 months back so I don' t remember all the details. He missed many light point which I have been telling him again and again. Need to go to city again just for that. Anyway come to bigger picture. 1. With kitchen it has to be ADU and the addition only is not possible and it changed the whole landscape of the project and 1 month for the next appointment. 2. We put a 2' more height and he was not aware of it that it's not aallowed.City told us we have can have only 1foot difference from the older roof. So to gain more height I suggested vaulted ceiling and he told me it will 4 weeks and cost $1000. By this time I already waited three months still I said fine. You don't do it on a daily basis. We had plan review with the city in 3 days. He was with the vaulted ceiling drawing. So clearly it didnâ t take him anytime but it cost me $1000 more for his ignorance. 3. The grading was totally missed. There was a huge slope and one contractor tried to reach him for grading drawing he didn't even responded. The city of course will not pass without it. I got some help from the city in the drawing and I am drawing my own but it's costing me $10K (10 thousands dollar) more. Because I have to break the whole concrete which was laid and pour it again. This triggered me to write the review. There many more things but these 3 are the biggest one. Even if you want them.. Good luck¦
