We hired Montgue Design for design services when we did a full renovation of our house, and worked closely with Jung and his team, who were very attentive. They took the time to learn our personal goals and were very patient. We highly recommend them and would work with them again in a heart beat. Thank you very much!

Review by in Atherton, CA
The project was to convey graphically to possible buyers the potential to replace an existing, 2200 sq ft house on the lower, flat portion of a somewhat-sloped one-acre site in Atherton, California, with a new house of perhaps 7000-8000 sq ft that would utilize more of it, and, further, be up to the far higher standards of those typical in the area today in spaciousness, quality and amenities. In our initial meeting, at the site, Mr Lee seemed to understand this; the design direction I, myself a now-retired architect, suggested going in; and the aggressive time line on delivery the circumstances called for. It was concerning that he had brought to the meeting not the zoning code of Atherton â which governs building there â but one for another jurisdiction which would not. And the proposal he sent soon after contemplated a house well less than half the size we had discussed and a timeline twice as long to produce the work product discussed. He resubmitted it, though, and knowing of no one else likely to be able to do what was needed as soon as it was, I paid him the $4500 advance he required to start and he got right on it. He produced in short order his first pass on two concept design alternatives in highly-detailed 3D CAD renderings and hints of their corresponding site plans in very loose, hand-drawn sketches. Only one scheme was oriented geographically as we had discussed; the other was 90 degrees off; each of them located the pool up in the air at the second level as part of the building rather than at grade as part of an expansive outdoor living area on the lower portion of the site as we had discussed; the placement of the garage in one scheme made no sense nor did how the driveways accessed either, and, again, were not as we had discussed; and both schemes even were hard to see as having been designed for the site or this project. For all that, the larger performance shortcoming was that the building envelope study (a/k/a massing study) I requested from the beginning precede the concept design site plans and renderings and, again, later, never was forthcoming. Just more work on schemes already going in the wrong direction. Theres more, but the bottom line is that, In the end, we parted ways, each of us feeling used and abused. While he got some paying work out of it, for me, nothing at all of any use ever come out of it, for a lot of money, and time trying to make it work, put into it.
