Very poor experience with a Mold Contractor - Sampling and Testing. Recently my husband and I were advised to get mold testing for our house because we did have water damage from a leaky faucet and my husband was experiencing symptoms and we thought mold might be causing them. We hired Miller Family Home Inspection and Chris came out with his equipment on his initial visit and immediately began setting up his sample-taking equipment. (He did not give us a quote or discuss it, he just started laying out his equipment. That should have been my first clue). My husband paid him the fee which was substantial ($500) but was supposed to cover Chris time for sampling and the cost of testing by a lab he claimed was independent. About a week later, we received a phone call from the lab, Mold Test Company, saying we had a massive amount of mold. Then, the caller went into a vigorous sales pitch for their test kit which is *so much better than those other guys. Those guys charge $20,000 but we will not do that to you.* He kept talking until I interrupted him and asked how much the test kit cost. He got very terse with me and said that he was getting to that, but he had more to tell us first. Then he asked why we had the mold tested at all. I explained that my husband was having symptoms and that mold was a possibility but we did not know. He said, with great certainty: *it is caused by mold.* I did not tell him what the symptoms were and he did not ask but, still, he just knew it was mold. I again asked for the price of the test kit and he refused to answer, so I ended the phone call. At this point, we had not seen a written report. I called Chris back to tell him about our experience and despite his assurances that Mold Test Company was only a lab and not a contractor or in any way invested in the outcome of the testing, that their representative was definitely trying to sell us something, and he was using hard sales techniques which raised many red flags. I wanted to tell Chris this because we liked him and we wanted to let him know that the company he was partnering with was very definitely invested in having the testing results show a high level of mold and gave every appearance of being a bad company to work with. We thought Chris might want to stop doing business with them but, on the contrary, Chris defended them and himself. He said they were an independent lab. I told him that was not true because I called Mold Test Company and was told that the person who called us was their employee, a *Senior Mold Analyst.* Chris would not believe me. Then he changed his story and told me that Mold Test Company was not the actual lab, but instead, Mold Test Company sent the samples to another lab. As I explained to him, I was told by Mold Test Company that they did analyze the samples. Chris did not believe me again. Then I asked, *if Mold Test Company is not the actual testing lab then what is their purpose of the company in this whole analysis. Since we hired Miller Home Inspection (Chris) to take the samples, and then he sends those samples to Mold Test Company for analysis, but then Mold Test Company sends them to another lab for analysis, then what is Mold Test Companys role exactly.* Chris just continued to argue and change his story. My husband and I then looked up the symptoms for the mold that the salesman from Mold Test Company said we had, and it causes respiratory symptoms only. My husband was not experiencing that at all. I feel like we wasted the $500 and I do not want anyone else to go through this. I have already written to the Better Business Bureau about both companies. I told Chris I would do this but he was unconcerned. He made absolutely no attempt to correct the many problems of this transaction with him and his sub-contractor.

I have been sick for 8 months with various lung , fatigue, EBV, breathing, I missed so much work my 13 plus year job fired me. So when I had this test done and found out that I had very high amounts of a asprigillius mold in my HVAC system and that there was a fairly easy inexpensive remedy and that I will feel so much better I was very happy of the choice that I made to hire this company. The company they referred me to to get what I needed to fix the problem was over the top helpful and could tell he loves his job. I have already referred to a friend who has already made an appointment. I can not wait to apply the remedy, it should be in the mail this week. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
