I hired John Shatraw of Modern Domains a few years ago to do a bedroom renovation, including sanding &refinishing wood floors, and while overall his work was OK, for some reason he stopped in the middle of the job and insisted on full payment. We wouldn't do that, but did advance him some more to hold him over to the end. When done, the floors were not smooth but had a fine grit on them. Another pro who came to fix that, told us that Modern Domains' workers either didn't clean the floor well enough after sanding or didn't let the finish dry thoroughly between coats. We had to pay someone else to fix his work.

John did a fantastic job.

Though it took a week or two longer than anticipated to get started, they were on the site and working until complete. Quality was excellent, project site was cleaned up well. Would use them again.

Project was a total renovation of a 6 unit apt. bldg damaged by fire. John, the owner, was one of the most pleasant contractors we have worked with. He was very meticulous about the quality of work. His subcontracts were supervised accordingly. He took full responsibility for problems and was quick to resolve. When schedule was compromised by subcontractors due to his vacation, upon return lost time was immediately recovered. He provided suggestions and accepts the owner's desires as the bottom line. He is a man of his word. The job was completed on time with reasonable and appropriate cost changes.

It was almost 10 years ago that we contracted Modern Domains for an extensive home improvement job. It cost a total of more than $100k to add additions to our house. At the time the work seemed to be decent. Years passed by, the house started to leak right where the additions were. The owner of the company did respond initially and introduced a friend of his to fix the leak. He charged 5k. Unfortunately we didn't know enough about fixing. He messed up our roof. Ever since then we have suffered leaking. Bad enough other flaws of the construction showed up. We had to spend much more to repair. It was just shoddy. Of course Modern Domains never responded to our calls since as if it disappeared.

Modern Domains is the kind of contractor you wan nothing to do with.

a pleasure to work with...willing to make changes even after the project was underway...patient with me...offered ideas we had not thought of...did what they promised...stuck to schedule
